Sept. 12
" Friday wind S West a Moderate Breeze with Cloudy Weather. at 5 AM set off. at 11 AM the Canadian Master came up to us. then Proceeded to the place Appointed to Build on."

Sept. 13
" Saturday Wind Westerly with middling sharp weather. at 4 AM myself & the Canadian Master & a Indian man to pilot us set off to show us a place more suitable to Build on. but found it not so good. at 3 PM Return'd. set one man about Making a Door frame. the others variously Employed."

Sept. 14
" Sunday Wind Northerly a Stiff Breeze with fine clear Weather. at 4 PM 6 men Arrived that Embarked on the 10 Instant from Swan River House. they informed of their only Getting About 50 miles up the River it being so very shoal. they left 3 men in care of the Goods. at 4 AM sent 2 men off with 4 Horse to the Swan River House loaded with Dried Provisions and furrs."

Sept. 15
" Monday Wind Northerly a moderate Breeze weather cloudy Inclinable to Rain. at 4 AM sent 6 men with 6 Horse to fetch the Trading Goods before mentioned. at 4 PM an Indian man and his family arrived brought a few Furrs and some half Dried Provisions gave him a little to Drink and he got Drunk. the people at home variously Employed. 2 at the saw pit. the others hewing of Timber for Building a House."

Sept. 16
" Tuesday Wind NN East a moderae Breeze with flying clouds and mild weather. the Indian man of yesterday. gave him a small Supply and he went away. At 3 PM 3 Indian men arrived with 3 Horse loaded with Furrs and Provisions Give them a little to Drink and they got Drunk &c. the people Employed as before."

" Wednesday Wind Variable all Round the Compafs. at 10 AM 9 men arrived with 6 Horse loaded with Trading Goods that went away on monday last. at the same time 4 men arrived 4 Horse from Swan River House loaded with Trading Good. the Indians of yesterday Gave them a small Supply and they went away - the people Employed Building."

Sept. 18
" Thursday Wind and Weather the same as yesterday. at 3 PM and Indian man arrived he brought some Dried Provisions and a few Furrs. Gave him a little to Drink and he got Drunk. the people Employed 2 at the pit saw the others Building."

Sept. 19
" Friday Wind Northerly a Stiff Breeze cloudy Weather Inclinable to Rain. at 4 AM sent 2 men away to one of the Hunters to fetch part of a Buck moose that he had killed short from the House. at 11 AM they returned loaded - the Indian of yesterday Gave him a small Supply and he went away. At 8 AM an Indian man arrived with word that he had killed two moose short from the House. he stayed about 2 hours then sent 5 men with 5 Horses to fetch the meat. at 4 PM they Return'd loaded with moose meat. the people at home Employed Variously some Cutting Grafs to Cover the House the others 2 at the pit saw the rest Building."

" Sunday Wind Easterly light Breezes at times with fine clear Weather. at 4 PM arrived 20 Indian men & their familys. their trade Consisted of Beat meat & fat & a few furrs."

Sept. 22
" Monday Wind N East a moderate Breeze Weather overcast with snow at times. at 7 AM sent 4 men with 4 Horse to swan River House loaded with Dried Provisions. the people at home Employed 2 at the pit saw the others Building. the Indians of yesterday Drunk."

" Thursday Wind Westerly a moderate Breeze with fine clear Weather. at 7 AM sent 8 men & 8 Horse to swan River loaded with a few Furrs & some Provisions. two of them stops their & two Horse. at 4 PM hugh Sabiston Arrived with York Factory Packet & informed me of the Ship not being arrived the 30 of August so as the season of the year being so late they was Obliged to Proceed without the English Packet. he likwise informed me that he left a Canoe of Cargo at Gordon House Upon the Account of the Guide would not wait for them. so for the same. I am afeard I shall find my self at a lofs for want of the Goods.

Dear Sir
Not being able to spare a Person to send with Hugh Sabiston who he is Determin'd to set off for swan River. he Goes Alone. I have with him your Packet from York Factory.
Mr Oman arrived here on tuesday last -- with four Canoes & a small Quantity of Trading Goods. he Remain'd at the Factory waiting for the Ship till the 30th of August. when no Arrival he Embarked on his Pafsage up. he found three of your Bundles & some hats which he brought to this place & Remain here. should you think proper to send for them in the course of the Winter.
Mr Bird sets off to morrow to go up the River to Build a House near the Nippoe-way. Wishing you a pleasant Winter with a good trade.

I have the pleasure to acknowledge the Receipt of yours the 21st Ulto? the 2nd Inst. I make not the least Doubt that a Communication might be Open'd between us at the head of this River. I have wrote my sentiments to the Cheif at York factory. in answer to his Letter I received Directed to Mr D. MacKay - we will not be able this fall to reach farther then the Part?. Mr Sutherland now Occupy as we have to go to Martins fall for our Goods. as you have visited Mr Sutherland I make not the least doubt but he has inform'd you of every Circumstance down our way which leaves me little to Relate ------ the trade in this Quarter is very poor the Afsinee poet Indians bring nothing but a few Wolves. their trade Consists cheifly in meat and fat. which they have in Great abundance. I have not 600 MB yet and expect but little more having such a Number of Canadian Houses to oppose. hope you have better prospect for the Honble Company.
