Sept. 5 1786
" Tuesday at 4 PM Capt.Tunstall took his leave of us and proceeded for the Ship saluted him with seven Guns. Capt. Moosuminan and another Eastward Indian came in with a few Summer furrs."
Sept. 6
" Wednesday Wind Northerly blows fresh with rain. this morning the Ship got underway and went out. PM the Shallop came up with a few articles that had been mifsing and returned to the Ship with Letters for England. two men mowing grafs. seven men in the Batteaux attempted to carry the above Letters to the Ship but was obliged to return the Wind blowing too hard, the rest grinding Oatmeal cleaning the Yard &c. rec'd Geese from Indians."

" Thursday Wind Southerly fine pleasant weather. four men grinding Oatmeal. Armourer repairing Indian Guns. Cooper at work for Eastmain their Cooper being sick. Sawyer sharpening Saws. the rest mowing the Plantation. Rec'd Geese from Indians."
Sept. 8
" Friday Wind Southerly very heavy Thunder Lightning and Rain in the morning. the Cooper making a Closet to contain the Slopse &c sent out for disposal. Mr Turnor and two men packing Goods for Fredrick House, three grinding Oatmeal. the Eastmain Taylor at work for John Manall the new Writer. Armourer at work for Frederick House. one Cook. one Sick. the rest mowing the Plantation, the Moose Sloop and Shallop came up. rec'd Geese from Indians. Pack'd Trading Goods for Brunswick House and the Hannah Bay Goose Tent."
Sept. 9
" Saturday Wind West and NW blow'd very hard the two Shipwrights and And. Linklater making a Bowsprit for the Moose Sloop, she having broke her bowsprit in a gale of wind in the roads. one Cook. East Main Taylor as before. six mowing Grafs and making Hay. Armourer mending hunting Guns. two grinding Oatmeal the rest afsisting in packing Goods for Brunswick and Abbitibi Settlements and the Hannah Bay Goose hunt. Rec'd Geese Ducks and Plover from Indians PM the Albany Long Boat (that has been in the offing this five days) came up to the Factory, and the Beav. Sloop came to the Ship hole. from the former I learn'd that the Ships sailed yesterday afternoon, the Long Boats crew tell me they were ordered here to afsist the Moose Sloop in conveying the remainder of the Albany cargo there - but the Sloop Master tells me there is no occasion for putting any thing in her as the Sloop is not above two thirds full."

" Sunday Wind Variable moderate weather the Beaver Sloop came up to the point. rec'd by her a letter from Albany. dispatched Anth'y King and four men in the Shallop with Goods for the Hannah Bay Goose hunt and Mr Donald and one man to stay there to serve the Indians Powder and Shot &c. received Geese from Indians. an Eastward Indian came in. Received on Shore James Scott Labourer."

" Monday Wind Northerly cloudy weather with rain at times. the people employed getting the Eastmain cargo on board the Beaver Sloop except the Armourer mending Trading Guns and the Eastmain Shipwright making a Crofsjack yard or the Beaver Sloop, the Moose Sloopers preparing for their Voyage to Albany with the remainder of the Cargo for that place. Rec'd Geese from Indians."
Sept. 12
" Tuesday Wind North fair and rainey at times. the People employed putting the Eastmain cargo on board the Beaver Sloop early AM dispatch'd Jn Mannal writer, Will. Johnston and And. Beckie Labourers with an Indian man and his wife in a large Canoe loaded with such articles as were wanted at Brunswick House. Jn Mannal is to stay there as Mr Maugenests afsistant. the Moose Sloop proceeded for Albany."
Sept. 13
" Wednesday Wind Variable fine weather dispatch'd Mr Philip Turnor, Will. Bolland and six Indian men and six women in four loaded Canoes for Fredrick House and towards evening Mr Atkinson went on board the Beaver Sloop and She proceeded (from the point) on her voyage to Eastmain. the people employed dispatching the Canoes & Sloop."

" Thursday Wind Westerly NW & NE Cloudy the fore part the latter part clear. 9 men making Hay. 9 gone in the Sloop for Albany. 4 gone in the Shallop for Hannah Bay with supplys for the Goose hunt. two gone there to stay to receive the Geese and serve the Indians Powder and Shot two gone for Frederick (late Abbitibi) house. six residents there three gone for Brunswick. five residents there and three of my men still remaining at Eastmain. Rec'd Geese and Fish from Indians."

" Friday Wind Easterly and NE fore part overcast latter part clear & fine weather. the few people at home employed making hay all the rest as before. PM the Shallop returned from Hannah Bay with one Hogshead of Geese."
Sept. 16
" Saturday Wind SW a fresh gale very warm clear weather the Shallopers brought their things on shore and afsisted the rest in making Hay which we compleated late this evening. Rec'd Geese, Rabbits and Fish from Indians."
Sept. 17
" Sunday Wind NE rainey weather fore part, latter part fine weather. the People not getting the Hay finished till late Yesterday evening prevented their preparing for coming to Divine Service and induced us to omit performing it. Rec'd Geese and Fish from Indians."
Sept. 18
" Monday Wind Variable ESE fine weather. Armourer mending a lock and making a key for it. Cooper and And. Linklater railing in the Hay Stacks and afterwards finishing fitting up a Closet for the Slops & other Articles sent out for disposal. Anth. King and one man bottleing Strong Beer two washing the guard room below stairs. Tho. Knarston and one to afsist him repairing the fireplaces in the Mens & Chiefs Flanker. one Cook. one washing for the Chief. the two others in the morning afsisting the Cooper and Linklater and afterwards with the afsistance of the Bricklayer, Mate and those whom washed the Guard room, they stow'd away the new Cables brought out this year and an old Cable left by the Beaver Sloop. Rec'd Geese from Indians. an Eastward Indian brought a few summer Furrs."

" Tuesday Wind Variable very warm weather. Armourer mending Indian guns. Cooper and Carpenter fitting up the new Cattle shed. Anth. King and one man painting the new Gun Carriages, one Taylor and a labourer to afsist him putting Naval stores to rights. three Labourers digging a trench for resetting the SW side of the inner Stockades part of which were falling and others fairly rotted off at the surface of the ground. two in the Warehouse putting the Twine &c out of reach of the Mice which are so numerous that inspite of all our care I am afraid will do us damage. one Cook. Rec'd Geese from Indians in the afternoon salted a Hogshead of Geese - - - Capt. Cowetonnah three Canoes came in with a few Summer Beaver and Musquash."

" Wednesday Wind N a fresh gale cold rainey wea. in the morning 6 hands were with Anth. King taking down the old Stockades, but the weather turn'd out so rainey they could not work out of doors therefore employed them in picking Oakum and making Sinnet. Armourer, Cooper and Carpenter as Yesterday. Cook as usual. two afsisting in the Warehouse putting things to rights and making conveniences for stowing some of the goods away. the Indians of yesterday drunk - in the evening Anth. King and 8 men haul'd the new Seine caught only 5 small Fish."

" Thursday Wind SW a fresh breeze cloudy cool weather. And. Linklater fitting up the new Cattle shed. Armourer mending Indian Guns. Sawyer and mate cutting ribbands for the Stockades. Cook as usual. all the rest resetting the SW side of the inner Stockades. Rec'd Fish and Geese from Indians and a few Summer furrs from an Eastward Indian, the uplanders of the 19th went away."

" Friday Wind SW forepart fine weather latter part NW Cloudy cold weather with rain. the People employed as Yesterday. Rec'd Geese from Indians."
Sept. 23
" Saturday Wind NE fine weather the Cooper & Sawyer planeing stuff for new railing the top of the Chiefs Flanker. And. Linklater finished putting up the partition &c of the Cattle stalls in the new Shed, one Cook. Armourer mending Indian Guns. Anth. King and the others rooting up the Willows &c and clearing the Plantation at the back part of the Factory. PM the Sloop arrived at the point from Albany. two Canoes of Uplanders came in."
Sept. 24
" Sunday Wind Southerly blew very hard cloudy with rain in the evening. the Uplanders of yesterday being drunk and troublesome prevented our performing Divine Service."
Sept. 25
" Monday Wind Westerly fine weather the Shipwright and one man to turn the grindstone helving & grinding his tools. Cooper, Sawyer Carpenter and Jn Linklater making new outer Gates and railing for the top of the Chiefs Flanker. Armourer mending Indian Guns. one Cook. Sloops mate making Batteaux's and Canoe coverings. A King and 11 men rooting up the Willows and old Pine roots at the back of the Fort. Six residents at Frederick House, two on the journey there. three at Eastmain two at Hannah Bay goose tent - - In the afternoon went with the Sloop master and four hands in the Sloops boat to look after the Cattle but could not find them. the Uplanders went away. Rec'd Fish from Indians."

" Tuesday Wind NW fine pleasant weather. Shipwright and A.Linklater at work on a steam kiln. Cooper and Sawyer helving and grinding felling Axes. Armourer mending Indian guns. Sloops crew employed by the Sloop Master in getting the Sloop up to her winters quarters drying and unbending her Sails &c. Cook as usual. the others rooting up the Willows. Rec'd Geese from the marsh. a Canoe of Mesackamee Indians came in brought 51 Made Beaver."

" Wednesday Wind Westerly forepart heavy rain latter part fair. sent A. King 10 men & a boy to the south shore to gather firewood. Sloop mate making Batteaux and Canoe coverings. Cooper Sawyer and Jn Linklater making new outer Gates and railing for the top of the Chiefs Flanker. Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the steam kiln. Armourer at work for the Shipwright. one Cook. one washing the Goose shed and afterwards cutting Cabbages for pickling. the Indians of Yesterday went away."

" Thursday Wind NW Cloudy cool weather the People employed as Yesterday. Pickled a 40 Gall. Cask of Cabbage for the men and several jars of red Cabbage and Onions for the Table. Rec'd Geese from the Marsh. Salted one Hogshead of Geese."
Sept. 29
" Friday Wind light airs variable very warm weather Thunder and Lightning in the evening & rain all night. the People employed as before went with the Sloop Master & four hands in the Sloops Boat to look after the Cattle and on our return made it in our way to see the Wooders and leave them two quarts Brandy. the Englishmen and Indians return'd from Brunswick House brought some very good Canoe Birch rind and one very indifferent small Canoe. Rec'd Geese from the Marsh."

" Saturday Wind Easterly heavy cloudy weather with rain. the men employed as before at Noon the men came home from the Woods."

" Sunday Wind North cloudy cool weather heavy rain Thunder & Lightning in the morning performed Divine Service."
Oct. 2
" Monday Wind North heavy rain all last night and fore part of this day, which prevented the men setting off to the woods. therefore employed them in picking Oakum and making Sinnit, and at tide time hauling the Sceine in the afternoon the weather cleared up and I dispatch'd Anth. King with 12 men & a Boy to the South shore again to collect firewood. Armourer employed making Nails and hinges for the new Cattle shed. Cooper and Jn Linklater making new outer Gates. Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the new Shallop. one Cook. one at times striking to the Smith and occasionally afsisting the other Tradesmen. two at Hannah Bay Goose tent. eight residents at and on the journey to Fredrick house . Six residents at Brunswick House."

" Tuesday Wind Southerly fair weather the People employed much the same as Yesterday. John Davison and the Cook went to the Woods to stay instead of Anth. King and two other men whom I want to send with the Shallop to Hannah Bay. Rec'd Fish and Rabbits from Indians."
Oct. 4
" Wednesday Wind SW fair till towards evening when we had a heavy squal of wind and rain. 11 AM Anth. King and three men proceeded in the Shallop for Hannah Bay with several things wanted there and to fetch home the Casks of Geese they may have salted. Cooper (and Armourer to afsist him) putting up the new outer Gates. Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the new Shallop the other two men went with Self in the Sloops boat (accompanied by the Sloop Master) to Middleborough, we returned in the evening. Rec'd Geese from Indians."

" Thursday Wind NW cold cloudy weather the Sloops mate and 11 men & a boy at the woods on the South shore collecting firewood. four gone in the Shallop to Hannah Bay. two residing there at the Goose tent. Armourer making nails. Cooper and T Knarston painting the new outer Gates. Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the new Shallop. one Cooking in the afternoon the Cooper and Cook salted a Hogshead of Geese and the Armourer and Tho. Knarston went in the Sloops Boat with Mr Vavaser to carry the men at the woods some Provisions and Brandy. Rec'd Geese from the marsh."

" Saturday Wind North a heavy gale all last night and most of this day with much rain. the people employ'd as before about Noon the people return'd from the woods having collected all the Firewood that was handy to be got at."

" Monday Wind Westerly fair weather the Sloops mate 11 men & a boy gone to the South shore to raft our firewood. Shipwright & Carpenter at work on the new Shallop. Cooper salting Geese. Armourer mending Indian Guns, two brewing small beer four gone to Hannah Bay in the Shallop. two at the Goose tent there. eight residents at and on the journey to Frederick House. six residents at Brunswick and three of my men at Eastmain. " Tuesday Wind Westerly fine clear weather the people as Yesterday except the Cooper and Brewers. the former and one of the latter of whom was putting up the railing on the Chiefs Flanker and the other was Cooking. PM the Shallop returned from Hannah Bay."

" Wednesday Wind Westerly Cloudy cool weather. the People employed unloading the Shallop she brought 17 Casks of Geese. afterwards the Tradesmen employed as on Monday the others washing the upper appartments in the Chiefs house in the evening the Sloop Master and 4 hands in the Sloops Boats carried the wooders some Provisions and Brandy."

" Thursday Wind NW Cloudy fair weather Cooper and Sawyer putting up the railings on the Chiefs Flanker. Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the new Shallop. Armourer mending Musquets. one Cook and washing. twelve at the woods rafting firewood. five proceeded in the Shallop for Hannah Bay, two residing there at the Goose tent. in the afternoon sent the Shipwright & Carpenter with another Boat & ropes & Kedges for warping the rafts home. the people having nearly finished rafting all the wood they had gathered the Cooper and his mate salting Geese. " Friday Wind WNW fine weather early in the morning the people returned with five large rafts of firewood & the remainder of the day were employed carrying part of it up to the Pile. Cooper and Sawyer at work on the new railing of the top of the Chiefs Flanker the Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the new Shallop. Armourer mending Indian Guns. one Cook the others as before. Rec'd Geese from Indians. PM one Canoe two men and a Woman of strangers came in from Mesackamee Lake with a few summer furrs."
Oct. 14
" Saturday Wind Southly cloudy weather rain in the evening. the tradesmen at their several employs as before. Cook as usual. all the rest carrying wood up to the Pile till breakfast time after which part of them were employed Carrying boards into the house ready for fitting up the inside of the mens Flanker and part fetch'd home 23 of the Cattle. the Indians of yesterday went away PM another Canoe of Abbitibi Indians came in with a few summer furrs."

" Sunday Wind Variable fine pleasant weather the Indians that went away Yesterday returned and together with the Indians that came in yesterday were so drunk and troublesome as to prevent our performing Divine Service."

" Monday Wind light airs Easterly fine weather all hands carrying firewood to the pile till breakfast time when I took four of them off to go with Mr Cloney and Self up the river to look after the remainder of the Cattle we returned in the evening with all but two of them. Rec'd Geese from Indians. three Hannah Bay Indians came in for debt."

" Tuesday Wind NW Cloudy cold weather. Mr Cloney and six men up the river looking after the remainder of the Cattle but could not find them. the rest carrying the wood up to the pile and afterwards taking up our Potatoes. the Indians of yesterday went away."

" Wednesday Wind Westerly fair cool weather a sharp frost last night all hands carrying up the firewood to the pile till breakfastime after which the Shipwright and Carpenter went to work on the new Shallop. Armourer and one man making iron plates for the barrs of our Gates. Cooper & one man to? salting Geese. one Cooking. one with Mr Cloney searching (but in vain) for two of the Cattle. the others taking up Turnips Carrots and other Vegetables. Rec'd Geese and Fish from Indians."

" Thursday Wind Southerly rainey latter part the people finished carrying the wood up the bank to the pile and afterwards the Tradesmen were employed as follows VIZ. Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the intended new Shallop. Armourer making iron work for the new Gates Cooper railing the roof of the new Cattle Shed. one Cook. one Cattle and hogkeeper all the rest (in vain) searching for the remaining two Cattle. Geo. Donald returned in a Canoe from Hannah Bay."

" Friday Wind Westerly sleet and rain. the people employed as yesterday and by the Sloop master found the Cattle but could not get them home. several of the Indians came in having given over hunting - hauled the Seine."

" Saturday Wind Westerly and Southerly Cloudy cool weather the people employed as before. sent again after the two Cattle but the Cow which has lately calved is so wild that they can't get them home gave part of the Indians their last hunting Brandy."

" Sunday Wind SE fair weather more of the hunting Indians came in to be paid for hunting and to take Debt."

" Monday Wind North Cloudy cool weather Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the new Shallop. Armourer mending Indian Guns. Cooper and Sawyer painting the new railing on the Chiefs Flanker. one tending the Hogs and Cattle. one Cook. the rest rooting up the Willows at the back of the Factory and at convenient times of tide employed at the Sloop taking up her Anchors and laying her up for the Winter. the Shallop returned from Hannah Bay with three more Casks of Geese &c. part of the Indians went away."

" Tuesday Wind light airs variable fine mild weather Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the intended new Shallop. Armourer nailing plates of iron on the barrs of the new outer gates. Cooper and Jn Linklater prepairing stuff for Rundlets. T. Knarston mending the plaistering on the Chiefs house and repairing the Ovens. one hog and Cattle keeper. one Cook. the rest employed by the Sloop master in getting some of the Boats, hauld up securing the Sloop &c."

" Wednesday Wind NW blew fresh with Snow. the people employed as Yesterday and hauling the Seine the rest of the Indians took Debt and went away."

" Thursday Wind Southly cloudy weather the Tradesmen employed as before. Cook & Cattle keeper as usual the rest clearing the River of Boats moorings. taking up the launch and hauling the Sean."
Oct. 27
" Friday Wind NW fair weather Shipwright Carpenter and 4 men gone to Poplar Island to look for Crooks and knees for building a Shallops Boat. five prepairing to go away Trapping. six digging some of the garden ground and Sowing Onions, Parsnips & Carrots. Cooper and Jn Linklater prepairing stuff for kegs and Sleds. Armourer stocking a Gun. one gathering the refuse part of the Vegetables for the Hogs and clearing the garden ground. one Cook. two at Hannah Bay. the last of the Indians came in from the Goose hunt."

" Saturday Wind SW and NW fore part mild latter cold & boisterous with Snow. Cooper Armourer And. Linklater employed as Yesterday Cook and Cattle keeper as usual. sent George Donald and Alex Slater up the river trapping, John Davison and Will. Johnston to the South Bluff fishing &c, and And. Beckie and an Indian to Maidmans Creek Trapping and Fishing. Mr Cloney, Self and two men set up some Traps on the South shore the rest of the People were employed conveying the Trappers to their tents and ferrying Mr Cloney and Self over the River the People returned with 37 pieces of crooked Timber for Boat building. late in the evening Jn Leask with 4 Indians in two Canoes returned from Frederick House."

" Sunday Wind North a fresh gale frosty weather with Snow at times. trusting the Indians of the 27th & 28th and ferrying them over the river prevented our performing Divine Service."

" Monday Wind NW freezes in the shade. Shipwright and Carpenter at work on the intended new Shallop. Armourer making Trapping Hatchets. Cooper and Sawyer prepairing stuff for making sleds. John Linklater prepairing stuff for making Rundlets. Cook, Cattle & hog keeper as usual. Taylor at work for self. two at Hannah Bay hunting. two at the South Bluff & one at Maidmans creek fishing. two up the river trapping & nine grubbing the plantation, hauling the Sean & ferrying Mefs Cloney and Vavasor over the River to and from the Traps on the South shore."

Cook and Cattle keeper as usual eight men and a Boy grubbing the Plantation. seven out Trapping Hunting and Fishing. seven residents at Frederick House. six at Brunswick and three still at Eastmain."

" Thursday Wind SW fine clear weather much Ice in the River & on the Shores. Tradesmen employed as before the others taking up part of the Cabbages &c."

" Friday Wind Easterly snowy mild weather Tradesmen at their several employs. Cook & Cattle keeper as usual. the others brewing, taking up the Cabbages and clearing the Gardens, ferrying one man & Mr Cloney over the River to and from the traps on the South shore they brought 4 Martins and 1 Mink."
Nov. 4
" Saturday Wind light airs variable mild weather all hands collecting the brush willows and roots (that have been grub'd up this fall) for making a bonfire round which at night with strong Beer and Brandy they made merry on the happy Anniversary. the Bull and Cow that we have so often endeavoured to get home at last came home of themselves. but have not brought the Calf with them, nor could we find it tho' we spent half the day in tracing the old Cattles tracks."

" Sunday Wind NW Cloudy mild weather driving Ice and a high tide hath shifted the Shallops shore broms and drove her a head of them. the people emloyed by the Sloop master setting them to righs and getting her secured."
