Sept. 17 1784
" Friday The People employed stowing away the MR Cargoe and putting part of the EM Cargoe on Board the Beaver, received 35 Made Beaver from Moosominan, Quemefs & Cheman, Eastern Indians."
Sept. 18
" Saturday Calm fine pleasant weather sent the Longboat down to the ship with the second after package she returned again in the evening. about Noon Thomas Berwick Samuel Sibley Andrew Backie and two Indians arrived from Brunswick with 171 Made Beaver. PM dispatched Mr George Donald, David Laughton and three families of Indians with flour, Meat, Brandy and a few articles of trading Goods for Abbitibi in three large Canoes. the few men at home putting the EM Cargoe on board the Beaver, received a Pacquet from Albany containing Letters for England - the Captain of our Eastern Goose hunters came in to the hunt. Received Geese from Indians."

" Sunday Wind SW fine Weather in the Morning early the Longboat went down to the Ship with 4 pafsengers Viz. Thomas Berwick, Nicol Allen, Hugh Monroe, Samuel Sibley and at 10 AM Captain Christopher took his leave of us and went down in his Yawl for the ship. Received Geese from Indians."

" Monday Wind NW blow'd fresh heavy rain most part of the day. Armourer mending Indian Guns. Bricklayers and Mates rebuilding the fireplace in the West Flanker. Shipwright stocking an Anchor for the Beaver Sloop. the Longboat and Shallop came up, the Shallop having seen the ship safe out. she set sail for England about 3 PM yesterday. the others employed loading the Beaver Sloop. Received fish from Indians."

" Tuesday SW a fresh breeze fine weather Armourer Bricklayer Shipwright and Mates as yesterday. 4 Employed at the new Building the rest putting the Eastmain Cargoe on board the Beaver. AM Mr George Atkinson with two Indians and their wives set off in two Canoes for Eastmain. all the Indians went to the Marsh to hunt. Received Geese from Indians."

" Wednesday SW a fresh Gale. two Brewing. two at the building. shipwright and Mate layed the keel of a large flat bottomd Boat for the purpose of unloading the Sloops and Shallop and the more quick dispatch of the Ship. two drawing the Lime kiln. Armourer and one Man making Spikes. Anthony King repairing the Seine Net. one cook and tending on self. Taylor at work for Mr Bolland - one of the Indians returned from Mr Donald with his wife who is so ill She cannot proceed on the journey. in the evening gave the Beaver Sloop her dispatches for Eastmain."

" Thursday Wind Northerly the Beaver Sloop dropt down to Ship hole. the Indian of Yesterday returned to Mr Donald and as I hear the Water is very Shoal I have sent William Gill William Sinclair and two additional Indian Women with another Canoe to Mr Donald's afsistance. 4 Men at the Building. 2 at the fireplace. Armourer and Mate making Spikes. one Cook. Anthony King mending the Seine Net received fish from Indians."

Anthony King afsisting in making goods for hannah Bay and Brunswick. one sick. two at the Goose Tent at Hannah Bay. seven in the Sloop at Albany. four on the journey to Abbitibi and seven Residents there. four resident at Brunswick and 19 at Eastmain. Salted one Hogshead 130 Geese."

" Tuesday Wind Westerly forepart latter part NW blows fresh fine Weather. early in the Morning dispatched Anthony King and two Men in the Longboat for hannah bay with supplys for the hunt there. Cooper McFerlin Halcrow and Linklater at the new Flanker Armourer repairing Indian Guns. one Cook. one Sick. about 8 AM the Moose Sloop made her appearance but did not get up to the point till about 5 PM."

" Friday Wind SW a fresh gale Cloudy weather. the Cooper and Peter McFerlin employed at the new Flanker which they have now got the roof Girders acrofs. Halcrow and the Hog keeper building the fire place. Armourer repairing Indian Guns - PM dispatched Mr William Bolland, Thomas Arrowsmith, Andrew Beckin, Richard Small, John Inkster, James Robinson, Thomas Flett and Andrew Linklater in the King George flat Boat with supplys for Brunswick House. Mr Bolland is to reside as master? of the House. Received Geese from Indians. late in the evening William Gill and Indians returned from Mr Donald by whose Letter (Vide Correspondence) I am sorry to find the Water is so very shoal that he fears he will at last be obliged to leave part of his Cargoe."

" Monday Wind Westerly Cloudy Weather Mr Brand with the Shipwright and Armourer Stowing away in their proper places Flour Casks, Salt, Oatmeal &c. Cooper and McFerlin at the Building. Halcro and stockin at the Chimney. one Cook. in the afternoon unbent the Sloop and part of the Shallops sails and stowed them away and salted a puncheon 230 Geese."

" Sunday Wind Sly freezes in the Shade AM Captain Che cha mock came in with a few summer furrs and to take trust for the Winter. he went away again in the evening. Trading and trusting the above Indian and serving hunting Indians powder and shot prevented our performing Divine Service."

" Thursday Wind Easterly cold Cloudy Weather. the People employd laying the Lead on the roof of the new flanker and salting Geese. Received Geese from Indians."

" Friday Wind So. with heavy rain all last night and this Morning about noon the Wind Changed to the NNW with a heavy flight of snow and the Weather became very sharp. the people employed laying the lower floor of the New Flanker and Clearing Chips and other rubbish out of the Cellar."

" Saturday Wind NW a very sharp frost last night entirely skind? the river over with Ice which when the flood made gave way and almost drove our boats over to Hazy's Island. the People employed getting the Boats home again. Sent two Men to the Eastward to fetch home the hunting Indians. Received Geese from Indians."

" Monday NW blows fresh with much snow in the forenoon. latter part very sharp weather. Cooper, McFerlin, Halcrow and Gill employed at the building. one Cook. the others (except Anthony King and Edward Clouston whom were putting the Cellars to rights) employed by the Sloop Master in securing the Sloop and afterwards they were employed wheeling earth into the Cellar. the Indians drunk."

" Thursday Wind SbW Cloudy Weather. the People employed at the Building and killing and Cleaning hogs - the Indians Crofsed over the Ice to the South Shore and some of the others (I understand) crofsed the North River. several others from the Marsh appeared at the same time on the opposite side but were afraid (I suppose) to come acrofs."

" Friday Wind S thawing weather which has again uncovered the ground of snow and Cleared the Channel of Ice. Sent three Men acrofs the river in a boat to fetch the Indians over whom were only just returned when the Ice that has remained fast these three days gave way and went out to sea. the People employed as Yesterday and Various other duty's."

" Saturday Wind NW light airs fine Weather much Ice driving. the People employed at the Building and ferrying the Indians over the river again. Sent Mr Brand with 4 hands in the boat to the East bluff for Geese left there by the Indians. Chick a henish came home with two of the Boats crew from Brunswick. the others at the North shore. the boat (they tell me) they have left at Matapooswon the Ice having so jam'd her in the 23 Instant that their utmost endeavours for geting her out proved fruitlefs and it was with much difficulty (they say) that they reached the shore themselves. About midnight (when the tide suited) Anthony King with 4 Men in one of the Batteaux set off to fetch home the rest of the Boats crew from Brunswick, and at the same time to bring down some Provisions left at Catapo higgan on the journey up."

" Sunday Wind light variable extraordinary fine weather for the time of year. employed trusting and dispatching the Indians which prevented my performing Divine service. Received a Note from some Indians from Hannah Bay which informed me they had received 278 Geese more from the Indians since the Boat left there."

" Monday Wind SSW fair Clear mild weather. Cooper Halcrow and McFerlin at the Building. Shipwright and 4 Men began building a shed for containing Sloop and Crafts stores. Cook as usual. Armourer mending Indian Guns. late in the evening the Batteaux returned with the Men and the Goods left on the journey to Brunswick."

James Flatt Peter McFerlin and Andrew Linklater preparing stuff for Buoys and making staves for eight Gallon kegs for inland service. Thomas Halcro and William Wase at the pit saw for the floors of the new Flanker. Armourer and Mate at the Forge making nails for ditto and ? &c for the Coopers. Andrew Beckin making Cloaths for Edward Clouston Cook and Cattle keeper and usual. E. Clouston acts as steward and at times is employed in making rundlets for inland Service. four Men with Mr Brand filling the hollows in the SW Path and preparing it for the Cattle hauling firewood. Six away hunting and fishing PM an Indian Woman came in for Victuals for her husband being Ill and one of our Men came home from the South Bluff. brought only eight Martins and has neither fish, Rabbits, or any kind of provisions every thing (he says) being very scarce."

She brought only one prime and one Common Martin and 2 Beaver Skins in part of 40 odd Beaver debt. Sent the Man Mentioned Yesterday away again to his tent with orders for him and his partner to bring all their things home tomorrow."

" Thursday Wind E fine clear Weather about 2 AM the whole body of the Ice gave way from side to side but presently after stopt in the Channel next to the Factory but continued in motion ? in the South Channel till the evening when it stopt again. Six canoes of the Homeguard Indians whom had closely followed the Ice appeared opposite to the Factory. and two of the Men with much difficulty reached this shore by coming over the broken Ice. the rest landed on Hazy. Six of the People attending the Sloop from 2 AM till 6 AM which we find has receved considerable damage from the stump of one of the Booms (which broke when the Ice first took motion) going through her side. the Men whom were attending the Sloop (as well as the others) at their several employs as on Monday."
