Oct. 2 1783
" Thursday About 3 PM the Captain took his leave of us and went on board the Sloop Moose which proceeded down to the Ship. the Shallop likewise went down to lay at Ship hole till the Ship sailed incase the Ship should need afsistance."
Oct. 3
" Friday Wind variable fine weather saw the Sloop Moose and Shallop this morning going out. the people employed stowing away the Cargo, packing powder and shot for the hunt at Hannah Bay & cleaning and repairing the large upland Boat. received Geese from Indians."
Oct. 4
" Saturday Wind variable Westerly fine weather. dispatched 4 men in the long Boat for Hannah Bay with supply's for the Hunt. two repairing the old flat bottom boat, the others variously employed, stowing away the Goods and packing supplys for Brunswick House, haul'd the sean caught as many Tickomeg as servd the men one days allowance. late in the evening the Beaver and Moose Sloops came up to the point with Cargo of which the Sloop masters tell me 4 Pipes of Brandy some Coals &c are yet remaining in the Ship, which would have taken them too much time to get at, at this advanced season of the year, therefore they intend carrying them back to England."

" Sunday Wind variable SEerly fine weather. all hands landing the MR part of the Cargo and shifting the other part of the Cargo into the respective Sloops in order to forward the dispatch of the Vefsels for Albany and Eastmain as fast as pofsible. the Shallop came up to Shiphole - Rec'd Geese from Indians, was informed by the Indians that the Ship sailed this forenoon."

" Monday Wind SE fine weather the people employed loading the Beaver and Moose Sloops late in the evening the latter proceeded for Albany with part of their cargo. Capt. Meshitwiskee? with two Canoes came in with a few summer furrs."
Oct. 7
" Tuesday Wind SE a fresh breeze rain at times the people employed putting the EtMain cargo on board the Beaver Sloop. the Moose Sloop sailed for Albany from aback of Pilgrims Island where she brought up last night. the uplanders of yesterday went away. Rec'd Fish and Rabbets from Indians. PM the long boat returned having lost the stock of her Anchor. dispatch'd her again immediately under the charge of Anth. King instead of Wm Gill. Brew'd Small Beer."

" Wednesday Wind SE fine weather the people employed putting the remains of the East Main cargo on board the Beaver Sloop; about Noon gave Mr Falconer his dispatches and he drop'd down to Ship hole. Rec'd Geese Ducks and Plover from Indians."
Oct. 9
" Thursday Wind SE a fresh gale rainey weather. the people employed packing goods for Brunswick. about 3 PM Mr Philip Turnor Wm Bolland, Samuel Sibley, John Leask, Nicol Spence, John Laughton labourer, Rob. Yorston, David Laughton, John Johnston, Thomas Knarston, Rob. Spence, Peter Kirknefs and three Indians set off for Brunswick in the upland Boat and Battaux. Mr Turnor Will. Bolland, Sibley, Leask and Spence are to reside there. the Battaux I have sent to afsist the Boat incase the water should be shoal, but if the water should be better than we expect, Knarston, Spence, & Kirknefs to return with her. Haul'd the Seine caught as many Tickomeg as serv'd the few men at home a days allowance which we have much occasion for not yet having salted a single Goose. but on the contrary am obliged to serve the men salt Geese of last year for their journey to Brunswick. the Beaver Sloop at Ship hole and Long boat at Middleborough wind bound."

" Friday Wind NE fine weather. the Shipwright and Tho. Halcro breaking up the old Sloop. the Armourer and one man making wedges and bolts for the above purpose. the others with Mr Maugenest Mr Cloney and Self stowing away the Albany Bales and putting the warehouse to rights. the Sloop and Long boat still in the offing wind bound."
Oct. 11
" Saturday Wind Easterly mizling rain the men at home employed as yesterday & stowing the Brandy away in the Cellars; about noon Mr Bolland came home with the unwelcome news of the water being shoal, with a request from Mr Turnor for the afsistance of two more men. John Laughton (who has now come home with Mr Bolland) being disabled by his hand getting jam'd between a Cask and the Boats gunwale, dispatch'd Matthew Tate & Henry Burnie (in a boat with two more men) to Mr Turnors afsistance. Mr Cloney likewise willingly offer'd his service to afsist in bringing the Boat down again. the Beaver Sloop and long boat still in the offing."

" Sunday light airs Northerly forepart, lat. part fresh breeze ENE at 7 AM the Sloop and long boat got underway and went out, but I suppose the wind chopping about hindered them persuing their voyage as I hear they are yet lying in lower Ship hole. Rec'd a letter from Mr George Donald by two Indians acquainting me that he had recieved 700 Geese from the Hannah Bay hunters and that the Indians were at a stand for want of Powder &c which has been on board the Longboat ever since the 4th Inst. but constant contrary winds renders it impofsible for the Boat to proceed on her voyage."

" Monday Wind Northerly fine weather. the Shipwright and Halcro breaking up the old Sloop. Cooper putting up the Armourers work shop. Steward Cook & boy with Mr Maugenest and self seperating the Albany from the Moose cargo and putting the warehouse to rights. PM Mr Cloney with the two men returned from afsisting the Boat which I have the pleasure to hear is got over much of the worst of the road, and from the appearance of the water I hear they expect to make an expeditious pafsage the rest of the way. - Brew'd Small Beer."

" Tuesday Wind light airs variable fine weather PM the Sloop from Albany appeared in the offing and got up to Pilgrims island about dusk in the evening where she brought up; the people employ'd as yesterday. one incapable of duty."
Oct. 15
" Wednesday Wind Southerly mizling rain at times about 6 AM the Sloop got up to the point and Mr Brand came ashore in his boat. by the letter I have now recieved from Mr Jarvis. I understand he will be much distrefsed for many articles if the Sloop does not make another trip, I have therefore given Mr Brand orders to prepare to return for Albany with another cargo to which purpose I immediately sent down the old flat bottom'd boat and old Sloops boat with loads of Albany cargo and to afsist in getting the ballast stones out of the Sloop two Canoes of Abbittiby Indians came in with a few summer furrs and to get debt for the Winter. Recieved Geese from Indians."

" Thursday Wind SW cloudy weather employed loading the Sloop. the Indians of yesterday went away. Anthony King and the two men returned from Hannah Bay having left the longboat there according to orders given."

" Friday Wind Westerly cloudy cool weather. by working all last night we got the Sloop ready for sailing by eight oClock this morning when she proceeded down for Ship hole in order to be ready to proceed on her voyage for Albany as soon as the wind shifts round a little to the South'd - Rec'd Rabbits and fish from Indians."

" Monday Wind SE cloudy weather with mizling rain. Shipwright and Halcro breaking up the old Sloop. Cooper putting up the Armourers work shop. Tho. Burwick at work for self. Cook as usual. Anth. King with the others gathering drift wood along shore and at the Same time bringing up and stowing away in their proper places, some old Warps and Cables and other stores belonging to the Moose Sloop brought from Albany and landed at the point below the Factory."

" Saturday Wind SEly a fresh breeze cloudy heavy weather. the people employed as before. PM the Boat and Batteaux returned from Brunswick. by a letter from Mr Turnor (vide Correpondence book) I am happy to hear they found every thing safe there as they left it. the goose hunting Indians came in having left off hunting, the Geese being all gone - by a letter from Mr Donald I find he has salted only 7 Hogsheads of Geese which is all my store for the ensuing winter, a remarkable scarce goose season for I have been obliged to Victual the Sloops and Boats with salt victuals and frequently serve salt Geese (remains of last year) to the few people at home."

Burwick at work for the officers, three wheeling earth into the new Cookroom to raise the floor. one Cooking, one Chiefs servant, one writing, one lame. trusted the Indians & they all went away."

" Tuesday Wind NE fresh breeze latter part cloudy with Snow and sleet at times. the men employed as yesterday. PM the Sloop returned from Albany and the long boat from Hannah Bay with eight Hogsheads of Geese."

" Wednesday Wind Westerly fine weather. 14 men at the woods. Shipwright, Armourer, Cooper, Steward and Writer, as on Monday. Brew'd Small Beer. Sloopers fetching home two sticks for Booms to keep the Sloop from coming too nigh to the shore. one Canoe of uplanders came in for trust. rec'd fish from the old Women."

" Thursday Wind Southerly fine calm weather thirty men at the South shore rafting firewood. one writing. Officers and self putting the warehouse to rights. the people return'd in the evening having bro't three rafts, half over the River."

" Friday Wind Northerly a very heavy gale with much snow which hind'red our men getting the rafts home, and drove our longboat from her moorings half way over the river where the people were obliged to moor her, it blowing too hard for them to get her back again. Hauled the Seine caught as many Tickomeg as serv'd all hands two days allowance."

" Saturday Wind variable sharp frost. the factory men got the rafts of wood as far as the flatts opposite the Factory, where they unluckily grounded. the Sloopers getting their Chests and bedding on shore. in the evening all hands attempted in vain to get the rafts and Longboat Home. the former did not float and they were not able to get the Longboat above halfway to the Factory the tide being too far ebbed 'ere they reached the flats. and much ice driving."

" Sunday Wind SW sharp frost much ice driving in the River. by carrying a line from the shore to the long boat we luckily got her home, but the rafts we had the mortification to see driving up the river. they having floated in the night and broke the rope wherwith we had them fastned to the Capston in hopes of getting them home ths morning; what renders our lofs more distrefsing is we have not now any firewood on the plantation and shall have nothing but green wood which is not yet felled, to burn. the rafts drove past the Factory again about noon but we dare not attempt to regain them on account of the thicknefs and quantity of ice driving in the river."

" Tuesday Wind Variable Westerly exceeding fine weather for the time of year. the Cooks, Cowkeeper, Steward, and Armourer as yesterday. Sent 4 hands in a Boat to set George Donald & Andrew Beckie to the Whaway Creeks and Edw'd Clouston and Thom. Arrowsmith to Butlers creek where they are to Tent and catch Partridges, Rabbits, and Fish. Shipwright, Anth. King and the rest heaving the longboat & upland Boat up the Bank, stowing away the remainder of the Ropes Sails &c - Brew'd Small Beer."

" Wednesday Wind Southerly very fine warm weather rain in the evening. in the forenoon the men employed carrying the old Sloops materials up the bank. in the afternoon shooting at a mark and gathering brush for a bonfire, round which at night they with grog made merry on the happy Aniversary."

" Thursday Wind SW excefsive thick fog with heavy rain in the afternoon. the Armourer, Cooper, Shipwright and 3 mates as on Monday. the others variously employed as grinding hatchets and helving them, clearing the Gardens of the remainder of our Vegetables, cleaning the yards and Houses &c sent M. Tate and Henry Burnie to the South shore to snare Rabbits and hunt Partridges &c. the River clear of Ice."

" Tuesday Wind variable fine moderate weather. the people employed as yesterday. those who were cutting the path finished it and gathered some windfall trees for firewood. Received 11 Methy from our hooks. one of the hunters came over the River to inform me that partridges and Rabbits were so scarce that they had seen only one of the former and had got only six of the latter since they have been away. gave him hooks and lines for fishing and sent him away again. " Friday Wind Westerly very sharp weather. Armourer and mate making hatchets. Steward & Andrew Beken making cloaths for the men. one at the fishing holes. Cooks, Cowkeeper, and Chiefs Servant as usual. six away hunting. five hewing timber for building; the others finished breaking the old Sloop up and getting her materials up the bank and afterwards went up the River to fetch home the Cattle. they returned with only two Cows, not being able to get the others home. Rec'd 11 Methy from the hooks and three Rabbets from an old Woman."

Armourer and one man making up spikes out of the old iron hoops ready for building. Cooper and 5 men returned to their Tents to finish hewing Timber down the NE path. three cutting fishing holes. " Saturday Wind variable sharp clear weather. the people employed as before the men finished hewing 40 pieces of Timber all that which was fell down the NE path and made paths for hauling them home. our Hunters returned to their tents. one man came home again from the North'd brought 100 Trout and from 2 men from the South shore 8 Rabbits and 11 Methy."

Halcro and one man sawing Timber (out of the old Sloops materials) for Batteaux; David Kirknefs and one man making spikes for the intended new building. And.
