" Copy of a Letter receiv'd from Mr Wm Tomison Dated. Buckingham House 30 Jan. 1793
Mr James Tate
On this occasion I have sent Robert Garson and Benjamin Bruce to afsist Mr Thomas to Buckingham House. I would have sent for him much sooner but I had not a whole backed Horse to send down till the other day I bought one for that purpose, the Horses here being all cut with bringing Meat so far off, all owing to the want of Snow; and there is not at this time an 1 1/2 Inch Snow on the ground; You will please to let me know what quantity of Pimmeecan you'll be able to make, as what I may be able to procure here is uncertain as my Goods are so very short, there has been in some blackfeet and blood Indians; but very Poor; the fat blood Indian Man was here the other Day, brought 14 Skins and some Provisions, the former he traded, but the latter, he only brought two small Pieces, for which I gave him two Knives and a piece of Tobacco, he not thinking himself sufficiently paid loaded his Horses and went off with the rest; You will also let me know what Goods You have remaining for I suppose there will be no Indians visit You except the fall Indians; and what Goods You may have will be conveyed up to this place in the Spring.
Please to send by the Bearers what? Bracelets you have and any thing else you may not want. I have only 6 Guns left and they would have been traded had I not put them by for Indians who bespoke them in the fall.
I am sorry to inform you that the Blood is Dead and long Foot died of his Wounds he received when quarreling with others. the straight Horn was drowned; by the above Indians I have lost 64 Beaver in goods of which 3 Guns and the rest in Cloth, Iron work and Ammunition.
so Conclude with wishing succefs to the Companys affairs health and happinefs to You and all under your direction and remain your
Well wisher
Wm Tomison.
