July 16 1779
" Friday Wind Westerly hot sultry Weather. the Men airing the Cloth after finishing all papers and accounts Mr Kipling set off for Albany at Noon. leaving me the charge of the House till his return in the Fall. in the Evening gave the Men something to drink. 2 Sturgeon from the Netts."

July 17
" Saturday Wind West hot Weather. the men as Yesterday. 2 Sturgeon from the Netts."

" Sunday wind Westerly with Thunder and Rain. Divine Service for the Day."

July 19
" Monday Wind Southerly hot sultry Weather. the men setting Cabbage plants in the Garden. 7 Sturgeon from the Netts."

July 20
" Tuesday Wind NW clear Weather. the Men mending Netts and doing other odd Jobbs about the House. 3 Sturgeon from the Netts."

" Saturday Wind and Weather as Yesterday. the men as before. at 5 pm arrived 8 Englishmen and 10 Indians in 9 Canoes with the remainder of the Goods greatly fatigued. and with heavy Complaints on the badnefs of the Journey. Some of the Goods having got Wet is greatly damaged, and 3 Shirts and one Skain of Twine is rotten and uselefs. At 8 PM came here Lieut. Tinnawabbino and Gang poorly gooded. gave them a little Tobacco and a good Treat of Brandy also gave the Englishmen Brandy."

July 25

July 26
" Monday Wind and Weather as Yesterday. the men airing the Goods. Traded with the Indians of the 24th after which they went away. and at the same time 6 Englishmen and 5 Indians set off for Albany. William Knarston stays in the room of Adam Moad and And. Corrigal until Mr Kipling return in the Fall. Lieut. Ennaneese and Sons not gone yet. one Sturgeon from the Netts."

" Tuesday Wind Easterly clear weather. two men at the pittsaw. the other two digging a Trench. 3 Sturgeon and 6 lb Jack from the Netts. at 5 AM arrived here George Sutherland and Mr Jn Coats, in Company with the Canadians on their Journey up the Country. George Sutherland took the opportunity of going with these People for convenience sake. his two Guides having but a small Canoe. they proceeded forward as fast as pofsible to the Sturgeon Lake and there to stay for George Sutherland's Arrival in order to accompany them according to agreement with the Gov'r when at Albany."

" Thursday Wind West with rain most of the day. the men fitting and setting up Gate Posts. by the help of those People who is obliged to stay and mend small Canoes? their Canoe being too large for the Journey."

" Saturday Wind Easterly Clear weather. at 9 AM George Sutherland and Mr Jn Coats with the Canadians went away in 5 Canoes and left their large Canoe here it not being handy in the Falls."

" Wednesday wind North Cloudy Weather and a most dreadful Night of Thunder and Lightning. the men pointing Pallisades. one small Sturgeon from the Netts."

" Thursday Wind Easterly cloudy raw disagreeable weather with drizzling rain all the day. the men making wooden pins for the Pallisades. about 4 lb of small fish from the Netts."

Sept. 3
" Friday Wind Northerly with Snow and Sleet all the day. the men as yesterday. in the Evening came in an Indian with a little Venison."

Sept. 4
" Saturday wind North clear weather. the men setting up Pallisades. at Noon came here Lieut. Nowachekeshickwab and Brothers brought a few furrs and a little Venison."

" Thursday Wind Westerly stormy Weather with rain. the men fitting and hanging the Gate. our Pallisades are now set to a few?, which we cannot set up till we break down our Garden, which will be late in the Fall. the Inclosure is 86 feet square. Pallisades 15 feet above ground with a gate of 3 Inch plank."

" Tuesday Wind Westerly stormy Weather. the men as before. in the Evening came here Lieut. Nowachekeshicnab and brought a little Victuals."

Sept. 22
" Wednesday Wind and Weather as yesterday. the men as before. Traded with the Indian of yesterday after which he went away. In the Evening came here Capt. Jecob and Family greatly distrefsed having upset his Canoe in the Falls and lost his Gun, Ammunition &c. but luckily being in company with some more Indians was supplied with necefsaries to carry him here."

" Sunday Wind Northerly Clear weather. Early in the morning Capt. Jecob came in with the flesh of 3 Beav. and one Porcupine. he Traded it and joined the other drunken Indians."

Oct. 4
" Monday Wind North Clear pleasant Weather. the men employed in doors. traded with the Indians of Saturday, after which they went away. just as they had got in their Canoes one of the mens Wives was taken with the pains of Child birth and was obliged to come ashore, and in about an hour after was safely deliver'd of a Boy."

Nov. 1 1779
" Monday wind Northerly Cold freezing weather. two men carrying in firewood. At 7 PM arrived here David Sanderson, Magnus Kirknefs, Thomas Flatt, Will. Irvin, and 4 Indians in 4 Canoes with Trading Goods from Albany. with much ado they got to the house, the Lake being nearly froze over, they Inform me that Mr Kipling had broke his Canoe in the Falls, and they was obliged to leave him 10 miles off."

Nov. 2
" Tuesday Wind and Weather as yesterday. the Lake froze over the last Night Early in the morning the Englishmen set off for Albany. but as the Ice could not bear them nor could they get into open Water with the Canoes therefore was obliged to return. In the morning came in an Indian and Wife that was hired to afsist up with the Goods. after much Trouble Mr Kipling arrived at 3 pm he was obliged to leave Canoe and Goods and two men with a Tent 10 miles off. In the evening deliver'd up your Honors Effects to Mr Jn Kipling."

" Wednesday Wind Northerly cold weather. yesterday at 3 pm after a fatigueing Journey of 18 days I arrived at Gloucester House found all well. the men that brought up the Goods getting themselves ready to Travel to Henley as they cannot take Canoes. the men at Gloucester House setting Netts under the Ice. self not well."

Nov. 4
" Thursday Wind Southerly warm weather. the men employed as yesterday. got 3 partridges. Self not well."

Nov. 5
" Friday Wind SW warm weather. Early in the morning dispatched David Sanderson, Magnus Kirknefs, Will. Irvin, Thomas Flatt and And. Corrigal with two Indian Women in Canoes, as the weather is favorable. Likewise sent David Moore, Will. Knarston, and And. Sutherland to fetch up the goods that was left. Self not well."

Nov. 6
" Saturday Wind and Weather as yesterday. in the Evening the men return'd with part of the Goods. also Wm Irvin (the two men being gone that I left the 1st Inst.) there being no Canoe to take him. the other two Canoes having three persons each."

" Friday Wind and Weather as yesterday. the two men employed as before. At 11 AM came home Moore and Knarston with the Cloth. gave them a little Brandy."

George Sutherland told me that the pedlars trades nothing with the Indians but Cloth Guns and Hatchets. every other species of Trading Goods is given them. if that be the case no wonder that the Indians do not come down as usual. George further informed me that he see the Indians that Traded here on the 27th May and they was displeased because I traded Powder Shot and Tobacco with them they being 3 of the many Articles that the Pedlars never Trade in this part of the country. I gave some of them all three of the above Articles, and many other things to encourage them to come down and Trade with us which I fear your Honours will think too much, but as far as I can learn without there is large presents of Trifling things given there will be no Trade. the Pedlars are so numerous and gives the Indians so much. but for more particulars will refer to George Sutherland's Journal."

June 3
" Saturday Wind NW clear hot weather. the men employed as yesterday. At 5 PM came here Lieut. Met,wa,ash with 2 Canoes well Gooded. gave them a little Brandy and Tobacco. in the evening gave the men Brandy."

June 4
" Sunday Wind West blows hard warm weather. Traded 200 Beaver with the Indians of yesterday. but they was greatly displeased there not being goods at the house that they wanted. this is the second time that this man has been disappointed for the want of Trading Goods at the Companys Settlement. which obliged me to give them a great many odd things more than otherwise I would have done. If I had had plenty of goods to traded with them. in the evening arrived here Lieut. Tinnawabinno and Gang 6 Canoes well gooded but I have not half the goods enough to Trade them which greatly displeased them. and I cannot persuade them to go to Albany nor Henley. the water is so low and they say that they have no provisions to bring them back. Neverthelefs I gave them a hearty welcome. in the evening gave them men Brandy to drink his Majesty's health."

June 5
" Monday Wind South in the forenoon excefsive hot weather in the afternoon Wind North cold weather with rain and Snow in the evening. the Indians of yesterday drunk. at 6 pm dispatched Lieut. Mettwaash and Gang. gave him a present of Brandy and Tobacco."

June 6
" Tuesday Wind South cloudy warm weather. the Indians of the 4th not gone yet. at 12 OClock came here an Indian and Family brought a few furrs gave him a little Tobacco. George Sutherland not well."

June 7
" Wednesday Wind Westerly clear hot weather. Traded nigh 300 Beaver with Tinnawabbino and Gang which was all the goods I had at the House. which was a great disappointment to the Indians for I had not Goods to Trade half their Furrs, and it was with great persuation and a large Treat of Brandy that I got them prevented from carrying their Furrs back again to Trade with the Pedlars: for they would not go lower on any account?"

June 8
" Thursday Wind East clear hot weather. the Indians of the 4th went away to hunt till goods comes up to Trade the remainder of their Furrs. but they was greatly displeas'd that they could not get goods that they wanted to carry to their Families as their Country is a long way off. was obliged to give them a little Brandy away with them to put them in a good humour. At 8 pm came here Lieut. Shewasquan,nep brought Letters from Albany and Henley. all Friends well at both places. he was greatly pleased with the Treament he got at Albany, and he said he would bring all his young men down next year. The men packing Beaver. the Trade here now is 2000 odd made Beaver. gave the men something to drink."

June 9

July 13
" Thursday Wind Westerly clear warm weather. the men employed as yesterday got 3 Fish. Traded a few furrs with the Indians of yesterday. Engaged 3 of them to go to Henley for goods and in the evening they set off."
