June 11 1796
" Saturday wind SW stiff breeze fine clear weather
At ten oClock AM three Battauxs and one large Canoe laden with Goods from york factory for Inland arrived at the Rock House and landed the Goods and stow'd them in the small House also took up those articles laid up in fall. about 12 pm? five Canoes of Bungees stop'd here on their way to their families gave them a little liquor ammunition as encouragement to bring provifsion in the fall. also three Canoes of Homegaurds pafsed. late in the Evening they all went away."

June 12

At 7 oClock AM Wm Manson sett of for York factory leaving Magnus Garston, Edward Tomison, Edward Rofsie & Wm Houston to repair the Dwelling House. one Canoe of Indians sett of for the factory."

June 13
" Monday wind SW strong Gale fine hot weather.
Men employed pulling down the Roof of the house."

June 14
" Tuesday wind SSW fresh breeze hot weather.
Men employed raising the Beams of the house. At 2 PM arrived here three Canoes from Swan River two & one small Canoe came from Crofs lake with very poor Trade from those quarters one french Man in company to engage in the Honble Companys service."

June 15
" Wednesday winds variable thick weather rain at times.
Six Canoes of Englishmen embarked for York factory. Men employed raising the Beams."

June 16
" Thursday wind NNE with rain most part of the day.
Men employed placing on the ridge pole & roof sticks.
Caught a few Jack fish."

June 17

Two Men employed at the Pit Saw, two putting on weather boards. Caught a few Jack fish."

Employed One man making a Door to the Storehouse. the rest at the pit saw."

At noon seven Canoes of Indians arrived here from York factory. they brought twenty one peices of Trading Goods besides seven Bags of Flour all delivered safe. gave them a little Liquor. they embarked for the factory immediately."

Employed six Men taking pine Bark the rest sewing up Guns in Cases. At six this Morning Hugh Leask & Robt. Garrot with a french man from the factory with an account of the french man having kill'd an Indians at the factory. they immediately Embarked for YF leaving the french man behind."

Mr Sutherland, Mr Wright, Mr Bird, Mr Oman, & Mr Swain arrived here with sixteen Canoes."

June 27

Employed fixing Men for returning Inland. Men at the putting up quartering for Petitions &c."

June 28
" Tuesday wind S with fine hot weather.
Myself employed fitting out the Men for Inland. Governor Colen with three Indians in one large Canoe loaded with furs set of for York factory leaving Mr Geo. Sutherland to set out the Cargoes for Inland."

June 29
" Wednesday wind S fine breeze hot weather.
Early this Morning Mr Sutherland with eleven Canoes of Englishmen set of for York factory also Wm Manson with the Batteaux loaded with fifty five Bundles of furs from Inland set down the River. Men going Inland getting themselves ready to set off tomorrow."

Mr Bird Early this morning embarked for Cumberland house with five Canoes of Goods. Myself employed stowing the remainder Goods and taking an account of them."

At noon one Canoe of Bungees arrived here and brought me some Dried Meat and a few Moofeskins, he informs the Canadians are a going to build an house at the place called the side pine a little above the Weypannapaunis river this fall. should this be true it certainly hurt the trade at York as most of the Homegaurds winters there."

" Monday wind NNE fresh breeze fine clear weather. Men employed Grinding their tools. Myself and two Men went in a Canoe to a small Creek above the Rock in the Evening to set the net."

July 19

Two Men sawing quartering others cutting stockades. Took up the net at the Creek as theres no fish in there."

At nine this Morning Mr Sutherland sett of for Inland with five Canoes Leaving Robt. Linklater who is very bad with the gravel here and took Edward Tomison in his place. also Mr Longmoor with five Canoes at twelve oClock set of Inland."

Men employed sawing and cutting firewood. About noon a young Man came here from his tent at the Hill. and informs me they have seperated from the others whom they were tenting in the fall at the fishing lake. as there was very little water in the lake therefore there was no fish to be got there at which I'm much disappointed. he brought about 12 lb of half dried beaver and 3 porcupines with one pair of snowshoes."

at 1 oClock Am the river ice gave way and went a small distance then choak'd for three hours when the water rose to a great height in so much that it floated all the logs that were for Building, not withstanding every exertion in our power to get them we lost 40 logs that went down the river this lofs will be severely felt in Building as there are no Timber nigh hand. at 8 oClock AM we had a clear river. when leaving a great quantity of ice in the Bay and on the Banks of the River."

Late in the Evening two Chilldren having taking a small Canoe belonging to the house to go? of? to the Rock a fishing. by some accident or other broke the Canoe by which means fill'd full of water and drove before the current leaving the Chilldren up on the rock. when the saw that no afsistance could be given them their cries were truly lamentable."

About two oClock AM sent an Old & his wife (parents of the above Chilldren) to the Hill where Indians were tenting for a small Canoe & to return immediately, the poor Children remains lying on the Rock to all apperance benumb with Cold. We endeavour'd to make craft to go to them but the the Current we had got to go against was to strong for the few hands to manage. In the Evening the Old Man arrived in a Canoe & releived the Chilldren from their confinement. also seven Canoes of Ind. arrived here poorly gooded, paid part of their Debts here due to York."
