" Sunday Wind ESE a stiff Gale Weather part Cloudy part clear. in the evening 8 Canoes of Indians arrived, these had large Credits last fall from me before I went from here and have not been here since in the Winter they went to the South branch and traded part of their furrs, and Mr Walker in the room of sending Men to secure the debts they had, he sent a Man to trade what furrs they had which was a childish action when he had not goods to Trade what furrs was brought by those belonging to the Place, and has been the cause of their cheating this place, having paid no more than 96 Beaver out of near 200, and what they have paid very bad being killed within this three Weeks past, and what makes me think more of this is that he sent out Liquor and Tobacco to these People for nothing where he had not goods to trade what was coming from the other quarter. Condemned and burnt with what was condemned at the upper Settlement 654 lb Tobacco your Honors will please to observe that the Tobacco is not the only lofs that the Company sustains for the Indians was paid above 200 Beaver in trading goods for bringing up Tobacco last year not including any other expences but that real payment."
[In the margin next to the remark about Walker "nothing is meant by this more than your Honors will be pleased to give a gentle reproof for such proceedings as it is Detrimental"]
