I the more readily came to this determination as Mr Colen both in his public & private Letters to me in the Winter promised to grant every afsistance in his power to forward any undertaking I might set on foot from here so that I trust he will comply with my request, otherwise the small quantity of Goods I send up by this opportunity will do little other than keep the Men in Victuals & procure? 3 or 4 Canoes from Natives next spring. many furrs I cannot expect they will be able to Trade as it is to be supposed at first making a Settlement it? must be more expensive than an old establishment."

I hope your Honors will not think I have acted amifs in exceeding the general bounds prescribed? of 40 Shilling advance only for going Inland, when it is considered the making a new Settlement & that up a River that has been generally given out as dangerous, altho' I have endeavour'd to do it away as much as pofsible, as I am pofsitively Certain it cannot be so bad as represented to your honors. in two or three years time I hope to give your Honors better proof than mere Words both of the Navigablenefs of the River & the plentifulnefs of Furrs to be obtained in the Neighbourhood of it."
