Nov. 1 1814
" Tuesday Wind Variable Cloudy Weather the small Ponds of water in the Meadow froze over last night.
Men employed, James Sandison Junior & John Tate bringing home Hay. James Sandison Senior & one Man putting 26 Bushels of Barley in soak for making Malt. John Hourie & Thomas Patterson and Measuring Barley James Spence Taylor employed at his Businefs. John Flett making hoops for small Kegs & Richard Cunningham doing odd Jobs about the House.
Three young Men half breed Canadians arrived at the Canadian House they came from near the root River, dont know what they brought.
Mr Carswell with four Men in a small Boat arrived at this Place 26 Ultimo with the Packet from England and on the 28th continued his Journey by land with 4 Men and 15 Horses to carry themselves & baggage to Paint Creek.
Two Indians employed as Hunters for the House & James Slater living with them to bring what Meat they killed to the House. - Adam Mowatt Keeping Horses About 19? Miles North of the House.
Produce of About 4 Acres of Cultivated land that is been put by for the use of the Winter exclusive of what has been used since the 20th of August.

Nov. 2
" Wednesday light wind NW Cloudy Weather inclining to Snow. Men employed 2 fetching Hay 2 Men cutting fire Wood Taylor at his businefs the others Variously employed About the House.
Altho it is your Honors wish to mention the Mens Names and particularize every particular that may Occur but should I do this it would swell out the Journal so much that my writing paper would be all expended by Christmas having only received 3 Quires of writing paper & two blank Books of 1/2 Quire each which will not be half sufficient to keep the Accounts in the new mode now sent. I shall therefore only mention the Mens names hereafter in any Particular circumstance that may occur.
This day a South'd Indian young Man arrived from the long Point of Woods acrofs South Branch River, brought a few Musquash. two others came with him who went to the NWC's House with about 200 Musquash. they bring the News of that part of the country being burnt all around where they are Tenting which makes bad Appearances of getting much Dried Provision; They were 3 Days coming to the Houses, they came for supply of Ammunition & Tobacco &c.
Late in the Evening 2 Stone Indian young Men arrived also, one to each House, they came from the Eagle Hill creek; and were 2 days coming, its about 60 Miles distant, they came for a supply of Ammunition but brought nothing with them to Trade. - They say there are no Buffalo where they came from except a few Bulls which are considered very bad living on."

Nov. 3
" Thursday a fine clear day with a light Breeze from the SW. The Indians that arrived yesterday got their little supplies & returned to their Tents.
Men employed much the same as yesterday. The Man Tenting with the Hunters arrived with one of the Hunters brought the Meat of 1 Moose Deer & 1 Red Deer."

Nov. 4
" Friday A very fine morning wind SW about noon began to blow a fresh Gale from West with flying clouds and in the evening the Wind shifted to the North with a Shower of Snow.
This day a little Ice driving in the River; it begins to freeze hard every night.
The Man who brought Meat yesterday with one of the Hunters returned to their Tent which is About 25 Miles Distant. - Men employed cutting firewood & bringng home Hay &c. Sent 3 Young Men half breeds (who have been brought up at the House) to try and kill a Bull for his hide to make line off. at the same time to endeavour to Kill a few Musquash."

Nov. 5
" Saturday Wind Variable at times a Strong Gale part clear & part Cloudy with light showers of Snow.
Men employed cutting fire Wood & Cleaning about the House. Adam Mowatt came home for Provisions & brought a few Musquash he had killed himself.
This day took the Barley out of soak that was put in water on the 1st Instant for making Malt. The Nights are cold strong Ice driving in the river."

Nov. 6
" Sunday Wind SE part clear & part cloudy Weather with particles of snow falling. This as been the coldest day we have had this season. - The young Men that went on hunting the 3 Inst returned without having seen any bulls they brought 2 Wild Geese. The Birds of Pafsage are mostly all away from us."

Nov. 7
" Monday A light Breeze SE part clear & part cloudy Weather. Men employed cutting fire wood & fetching Hay. Sent off the young Men that arrived yesterday to Kill Musquash and to take care of horses instead of Adam Mowatt who remains home to cut fire wood.
A Canoe belonging to the NWC with 2 Men & 1 family Arrived to day from the Upper Settlements by which I received 36 Looking Glafses & 100 Flints from Edmonton District. - Ice driving in the River much the same as before. - The Navigation keeps open the latest it has done these five Years past."

Nov. 8
" Tuesday Wind SE cloudy weather in the Afternoon it fell about 1 Inch of Snow, the first that as laid on the ground this Season. Men employed cutting fire Wood, Taylor making Clothes for the Hunters. - The Man from the Hunters Tent arrived, brought Meat of 3 Moose Deer & 1 Jumping Deer."

Nov. 9
" Wednesday A fresh Breeze NNW Clear Weather.
The Man that came home with Meat yesterday returned with John Merriman with him to afsist in bringing home Meat. - Men employed Cutting fire Wood, fetching Hay & putting Snow out of the Yard. - Taylor employed at his businefs. - 2 Stone Indians arrived none to the NWC House."

Nov. 10
" Thursday Wind Northerly clear Weather.
The Indians that arrived yesterday traded 16 Musquash & 30 lbs of Pounded Dried Meat and returned to their Tent which is about 35 Miles distant. Men employed much the same as yesterday.
The River is frozen over in Places but not strong enough to crofs on."

Nov. 11
" Friday Wind NW Cloudy Weather with a little snow in the Evening. Men employed cutting fire wood & other small works about the House. - People crofsed the river to day on the Ice, but its very weak not more than 1/2 Inch thick in places."

Nov. 12
" Saturday Wind Southerly cloudy Weather
Men employed cutting fire wood & cleaning about the House."

Nov. 13
" Sunday Wind South cloudy mild Weather.
This Morning a South'd Indian arrived came from a little way beyond the woody Hill; brought a few Rats which he traded & returned back again.
This day crofsed some Horses on the Ice about 3 Miles above the House."

Nov. 14
" Monday Wind & Weather as Yesterday.
Sent Adam Mowatt away with the Horses that were crofsed yesterday; and to bring others home. - The rest of the Men employed making a road thro' where the fire Wood is cut; to be ready to begin hauling it home as soon as we have a sufficiency of Snow on the ground for that purpose. - its 3/4 of a mile distant from the House. - No fresh Meat in the House to day."

Nov. 15
" Tuesday Calm rimey Weather
Men employed making a Kilmn for drying Malt on. The two Men from the Hunters Tent arrived with 920 lb of Meat (7 Horses carrying it). - The three young Men that went off on the 7th Inst. came home; also Adam Mowatt that was sent for Horses Yesterday.
In the evening two young Men South'd Indians arrived from the little Hill acrofs South Branch River."

Nov. 16
" Wednesday A Strong Gale NW with snow till 2 oClock PM when it cleared up. - The day being bad the Men who brought home Meat Yesterday remained at the House.
Men employed getting their Sleds and Dog harnefs ready. The two Indians that arrived yesterday returned to their Tents; sent 1 fathom of Tobacco by them to be shared among the Indians they came from that Trades at this House."

Nov. 17
" Thursday Wind W Clear fine sharp day
Sent off 6 Men with Sleds & Dogs to the Hunting Tent to fetch some Meat that remained there when the Men came home with the last Meat; there is not a sufficiency of Snow for Sleds to run yet but our Horses being so Lean Obliges me to send Dogs & Sleds. - The two Men who are living with the Hunters returned to the Tents.
Two Men employed finishing the Kilmn.
Thomas Patterson having had the Misfortune to Strain his Leg in the Summer which is not got sufficiently well to travel and to do the same duty as his fellow Servants, I have employed him to bring home the Fire wood for the Winter & to attend the Stable."

Nov. 18
" Friday Wind Easterly the Morning clear, in the afternoon Overcast with a light shower of Snow.
Men at home employed putting in new Windows & trimming about doors to keep the cold out."

Nov. 19
" Saturday Wind SW Clear fine Weather.
Men employed sweeping & cleaning about the Houses. In the afternoon 11 Stone Indians arrived 8 to the NWC House & 3 to this House; they came from a little way beyond the fighting River and Slept 3 Nights on their way here. they where sent by some of the Old Men at the Camp for a bit of Tobacco without bringing any thing to purchase it with.
Late in the Evening one of the half breeds belonging the House killed a Buffalo Bull about 4 Miles distant from the House but did not cut it up. sent off 2 Men at 9 OClock PM to cut and lay up the Meat of the Bull and they returned in the course of the night."

Nov. 20
" Sunday Wind NW with Snow
The Men that went for Meat on Thursday last arrived brought 997 lbs of Red Deers Meat.
Sent Robt. Sandison with a Horse & small waggon for the Meat & Hide of the Bull that was Killed last evening and he returned in the course of the day with 885 lbs of Meat and the Hide it being very bad Meat & somewhat spoiled by laying too long before it was cut up; it is put by for Dogs Meat."

Nov. 21
" Monday Wind NE Cloudy Weather but sharp.
Sent 3 Men for Meat at the Hunting Tent. - The rest employed in preparing things to go and settle a House at the Moose woods in case the NWC send there which they informed me was their intention. it is about 50 Miles Distant due South from this Place.
The Stone Indian young Men that arrived the 19th Inst. got a supply of Tobacco &c and returned to their Tents with 8 pieces of Tobacco each 14 Inches long.
2 South'd Indians arrived one to each House they brought a few Musquash.
A Flock of Wild Geese flew past here to day to the Southward."

Nov. 22
" Tuesday Wind SE blows hard cloudy Weather with a little snow falling at times.
Men employed as Yesterday
Four South'd Indians arrived at this House & a Freeman & 2 half breeds at the NWC House, the former came from the Springs, the latter from below the Mouth of South Branch River."

Nov. 23
" Wednesday Wind SW Cloudy Weather.
The Men that went for Meat on Monday came home about day break this Morning having travelled in the night brought with them 486 lbs of Meat.
The rest of the Men employed as before.
The Indians that arrived yesterday took Debt but did not go away. in the Afternoon another band of South'd Indians arrived from the little Hill, East acrofs South Branch River 19 Men and a part of their families with them 9 of which came to this House & 10 to the NWC Houses - 2 Canadians sett off for Swan River with Letters."

Nov. 24
" Thursday Wind S part Clear & part Cloudy Weather.
Men employed as before.
Trading with & given Debts to Indians all day.
The Indians that arrived the 22 Inst returned to their Tents."

Nov. 25
" Friday Wind Northerly cloudy Weather quite mild.
Men employed; one making a Wheel Barrow. one Man making a Box to hold an afsortment of Trading Goods. one Man making kegs. Taylor employed at his businefs. The others getting home fire wood. The Indians that arrived on Wednesday last returned to ther Tents.
In the Evening two young Men South'd Indians arrived from a days march beyond the Moose Woods. They came to get a Supply of Ammunition Tobacco &c &c for their Father, they bring the News of Buffalo being very numerous where they are Tenting which is three days walk from this place. The camp they came from consists of 40 Tents of Stone Indians & 6 Tents of South'd Indians. fitted them out to be ready to start on their return early next Monday."

Nov. 26
" Saturday a light air from the NW Clear fine Weather.
The two young Men that arrived yesterday returned.
Men employed much the same as Yesterday & cleaning the Yard. Sent by the young Men that went of to day 2 fathoms of Tobacco to be divided amongst the Indians at the camp that trades at this House. Late in the Evening a band of South'd Indians arrived 9 Men to this House & 13 to the NWC House; they came from the Birch Hill and they slept 2 Nights on their way distant About 50 Miles."

Nov. 27
" Sunday Wind Northerly part clear & part Cloudy Weather.
Indians that arrived last Evening Trading and taken Debt and a part of them went away. - They traded with us 800 Musquash and a few other trifling Furs."

Nov. 28
" Monday Wind NE Cloudy Weather
The remainder of the Indians went away.
Men employed tying up some Furs & getting home some fire Wood for themsleves."

Nov. 29
" Tuesday Wind NE Cloudy Weather blowing hard with thick Snow. it fell at this time About 3 Inches of snow which makes it very good hauling for Sleds to travel.
Sent off 4 Men with Dogs & Sleds to the Hunting Tent for Meat. - the rest employed bringing home fire wood."

Nov. 30
" Wednesday A fresh Gale NW Clear sharp Weather.
Men at home employed bringing home fire Wood & wheeling snow out of the yard.
In the Evening 6 Stone Indians arrived 2 to this House & 4 to the NWC House, brought nothing with them, they came from the Southermost end of the Eagle Hill."

Dec. 1 1814
" Thursday Wind West clear cold Weather.
The Men that went for Meat on Tuesday returned brought 766 lb of Meat, one of the Hunters came home with them having broke his Gun.
The Men at the House employed nearly the same as before. - The Stone Indians that arrived yesterday got a little supplies & went away."

Dec. 2
" Friday Wind SW clear fine cold Weather.
Men employed, some looking for Horses to go in search of Buffalo with; others preparing Sleds &c to go a Trip on Buffalo Hunting. In the Evening they came home with the Horses they went for. In the Afternoon James Whitford Jun. & John Ashburn arrived on Horse back from Paint Creek with Letters from Mr Bird and a few Articles I had requested from him by the last conveyance that went from this."

Dec. 3
" Saturday Wind SE cloudy Weather inclining to Snow, blows hard.
Sent off 6 Men with 6 Horses & Sleds, and 6 Sleds of Dogs 4 Dogs pr Sled, with one of the Hunters of the House to go in search of Buffalo; upwards between the Rivers, & not to come back till such times they get their loading should they go ever so far for it, but I expect they will find Buffalo at two Days march from this; by the account we hear from Indians.
A Southw'd Indian arrived from the Woody Hill early this Morning he has been two nights on his way brought one Horse carrying some Dried Provisions the few Furs he had he left behind at his Tent."

Dec. 4
" Sunday A Calm fine mild day a very sudden change, from very cold Weather to warm since Friday last. I should suppose the Thermometer must have rose from 41 to 51 Degrees.
The Indian that arrived yesterday went away and About 7 OClock PM 7 others with some women arrived 5 to this House & 2 to the NWC House, they came from the Woody Hill & have been 2 Days coming in they brought with them some Beaver & other Furs."

Dec. 5
" Monday A light Wind Sly clear fine Weather.
Indians that arrived yesterday still at the House; fitting them out to go away. - The Men at Home variously employed."

Dec. 6
" Tuesday Wind & Weather as Yesterday
The Indians that arrived on Sunday went away, also John Ashburn & James Whitford who arrived here from Paint Creek set off to go back again with Letters 1 1/2 Rolls of Tobacco & 2 Doz. of yew handle Knives. - Men at home employed as before."

Dec. 7
" Wednesday Wind and Weather much the same as Yesterday.
Sent off 2 Men to look for & bring home 2 Birch Trees for making sleds off for Triping with in case they may be required. - Taylor employed sewing Clothes. John Flett making Kegs & Tho. Patterson hauling wood. The two Men that went for Birch wood in the Morning returned late in the Evening without finding any fit for the Purpose."

Dec. 8
" Thursday Wind Variable cloudy Weather with a little Snow falling at times. - Men employed as Yesterday.
Got 1 Birch Tree home fit for making sleds."

Dec. 9
" Friday a light Wind SE clear fine Weather
Men at the House Variously employed.
In the Evening 4 of the Men with 4 Horse Sleds & 4 dogs Sleds, a part of those that went on a Hunting party the 3 Inst. arrived, brought with them the Meat of 8 Buffalo weighing 2419 lbs & 8 Buffalo Hides; the other 2 Men that went with them, with the Hunter; remained to kill and Stage more they had killed 17 Buffalo since they have been off, 9 of which remains on the Stage. - The Buffalo are numerous about the Elbow of the River which is about 40 Miles distant but they say they are just newly come there."

Dec. 10
" Saturday Wind SW Clear fine Weather
The Men that came home with Meat last night resting themselves. - Sent off James Spence in search of my other Hunter who is Tenting about the Woody Hill; & to bring him & the other Hunters family to the House, that I may send them up to where the Buffalo are.
Sent Adam Mowatt & a young Lad who is staying at the House, with ammunition to the Hunter at the Elbow, & to bring back a load of Meat, they take 2 days going to where the Meat is killed & 2 Days coming back.
In the Evening James Slater who is living with the Hunter at the Woody Hill, came to the House to inform me of there being five Red Deer at the Tent to bring home."

Dec. 11
" Sunday Wind SW clear fine Weather.
Sent off 4 Men with Horses & Dogs to fetch Buffalo Meat from the Elbow. - James Slater returned to the Hunters Tent and is to bring home the Meat that is there with the Horses he has at the Tent. - In the Afternoon 4 Stone Indian young Men arrived at the NWC House, 2 of which came over & asked for 4 pieces of Tobacco for Indians at the camp which they got. they came from the Eagle Hill Creek where they have a Pound for the Buffalo and have drove them in 4 times, they say the Buffalo are very numerous."

Dec. 12
" Monday Wind & Weather as Yesterday.
Men at from home
James Spence who went in search of the Hunter returned brought with him the Meat of 1 1/2 Red Deer the Hunter also arrived late in the Evening. - Two Southw'd Indians arrived at the NWC House they came from the Touchwood Hill with Mefsages to other Indians concerning War proceedings for next Summer."

Dec. 13
" Tuesday A Very fine clear calm Day
Early this Morning the Hunter that arrived yesterday went off to join the other Hunter at the Elbow of the River. - In the Afternoon the Hunters families Pitched their Tents at the House James Slater & John Merriman came home with them & brot the Meat of 3 Red Deer & 1 Jumping Deer. - 4 Indians also arrived from the South Branch River 2 to this House & 2 to the NWC House they only brought 24 Musquash."

Dec. 14
" Wednesday Wind and Weather as yesterday
The Men that went for Meat on Saturday & Sunday returned & brought with them the Meat of 13 1/2 Buffalo Cows and 8 green Hides the Meat weighed 3879 lbs. - The Indians that arrived yesterday still remain at the House. - John Hourie & George Sandison remains with the Hunters to bring Meat out of the Plains to the Tent."

Dec. 15
" Thursday Calm Cloudy mild Weather fell 1 1/2 Inch of Snow in the night; - Sent off all the Men to fetch Meat except two who is sawing a Birch Tree for making Sleds. The Indians that arrived on Tuesday returned to their Tents. - Hunters families still at the House."

Dec. 16
" Friday Wind NW blows hard with showers of snow at times.
The Hunters families Pitched away to day to join the Hunters. Two Men fetching Birch the rest away for Meat except James Sandison Senior who is brewing Beer for Christmas."

Dec. 17
" Saturday a fresh Breeze NW Clear fine Weather.
Four of the Men that went for Meat on Thursday returned brought the Meat of 9 Buffalo and 6 Hides Weight of Meat 2919 lbs the other 2 Men that went with them remains at the Tent till such time the Hunters kills wherewith to load them.
Men at the House repairing Chimney Places."

" Sunday Wind West Clear fine Weather."

Dec. 19
" Monday Wind as Yesterday remarkable fine day.
Men at home variously employed."

Dec. 20
" Tuesday Wind & Weather as Yesterday.
Two Men employed sawing Birch for Sleds, the others doing Different Jobs About the House.
Two Men came home with the Meat of 5 Buffalo & 5 Hides weight of the Meat 1368 lbs.
In the afternoon 8 Stone Indians arrived, 2 to this House & 6 to the NWC House, a part of them came from the Eagle Hill Creek & part of them from the Elbow of the River."

Dec. 21
" Wednesday A Strong Breeze Westerly clear fine mild Weather.
Sent off 3 Men with Dogs & Sleds for Meat. 2 Men sawing. Taylor making Clothes. - The Stone Indians that arrived yesterday went away; sent by them 1/2 lb of Tobacco to divide among 8 Stone Indians at their Camp."

Dec. 22
" Thursday Wind SW part Clear & part Cloudy Weather with a shower of Snow.
Sent two Men to the Hunters Tent to fetch Meat. 2 others arrived with Meat brought 2 Buffalo Weight 500 lbs & 1 Hide.
Two Southw'd Indians arrived from shell River brought nothing with them they came for Rat Darts and other little Supplies."

Dec. 23
" Friday light Air from the S Clear fine Weather.
The Indians that arrived yesterday went away. The 2 Men that came home with Meat yesterday are unwell & not able to go for Meat. A part of the Men who went off on Wednesday & the two that went off yesterday came home brought the Meat of 5 Buffalo Wt 1230 lbs & 1 Hide."

Dec. 24
" Saturday Wind Wly rather colder than yesterday.
Tomorrow being Christmas day dont send the Men away from the House but are employed Cleaning & sweeping about the House also turning 2 Sleds. - One Man that was Staying with the Hunters came home brought the Meat of 1 Buffalo Wt 302 lbs."

Dec. 25
" Sunday Calm clear fine day.
This being Christmas day gave the people at the House a Glafs of Rum in the Morning.
The two NWC Men who went to Swan River last Month returned by whom I received 2 Letters from the Gentlemen in that Quarter."

Dec. 26
" Monday a light air SW Clear fine Weather
Yesterday being Sunday kept Christmas to day & gave the Men a treat of Rum & a Dance in the Evening.
Three Southw'd Indians arrived from the Bloody berry Lake brought a few Skins & some Provisions. 4 others came to this House from South Branch river & 5 to the NWC House they brought a few Furs."

Dec. 27
" Tuesday Wind and Weather as yesterday.
A part of the Indians that arrived yesterday went away. Men unemployed."

Dec. 28
" Wednesday Wind & Weather as before
The remainder of the Indians that arrived on Monday went away.
Sent off 8 Men with 3 Horse Sleds & 8 Dog Sleds for Meat. - In the Afternoon a large band of Stone Indians Arrived 27 Men to this House and about the same number to the NWC House but those that went there seemed to be better loaded than those that came here they came from the Sandy Ground above the Elbow of this River; they bring the account of the Buffalo being very numerous and that they had already got 700 in the Pounds. at this present time there is every Appearance of Provisions being Plentifull. The Stone Indians seem more inclined to trade with us than ever I knew them before. and on which Account I gave them a good treat of Rum."

Dec. 29
" Thursday Calm clear fine warm Weather, the Yard is all wet by the Melting of the Snow from the Tops of the Houses.
Very busy all day trading with the Stone Indians till about 4 OClock when we finished with them, and a few of them went away but the rest remains till tomorrow.
Traded from this band 1383 lbs of Pounded Meat & 987 lbs of Fatt besides a few other Trifles.
One Southw'd Indian young Man arrived from Mouchwin,ne,peg. slept one Night on his way came to get a little Debt brought 20 Musquash with him.
The Men that went for Meat yesterday arrived brought the Meat of 10 Buffalo Wt 3132 lbs some Inside Fat & 12 Hides."

Dec. 30
" Friday Wind S part clear and part cloudy not so warm as yesterday. - 2 Southw'd Indians & their families arrived at the NWC House. - Sent off 6 Men with one Horse Sled & 5 Dog Sleds for Meat & 1 to look for Horses.
The Men at home Packing by our Trade of yesterday. - The remainder of the Stone Indians went away."

Dec. 31
" Saturday Wind NW Clear fine Weather
The Men that went for Meat yesterday returned, brought the Meat of 6 Buffalo Wt 2193 lbs 7 Hides & some inside Fat.
The Men who were Tenting with the Hunters, also the Hunters and some other Indians came to the House to spend New Years Day."

Jan. 1 1815
" Sunday Wind SW clear fine Weather
Being New Years day gave all the Men & Indians a Glafs of Rum in the Morning.
Three Indians & their families arrived to this House they came from a little on this side of Hudson's House on the North side of the River. they say they have brot a good many Musquash and a few other Peltries, they intend to remain at the House till New Years Holidays are Over."

" Monday Wind SW clear fine Weather rather colder than yesterday
Yesterday being Sunday Kept New Years day as to day."

Jan. 3
" Tuesday Wind Easterly Cloudy Weather & sharp inclining to Snow. - To Day; the Indians that arrived on Sunday Paid their Debts; & I gave them a treat of Rum. also the Hunters got a treat of Rum. Men being rather out of order after their Dancing & keeping New Years Day. where not employed to any Duty to day."

Jan. 4
" Wednesday Wind S clear sharp Weather
Men employed cutting Ice out of the River to make an Ice House off. - Indians that arrived on Sunday went away. Measured the thicknefs of Ice in the River & find it to be 17 Inches thick. A Buffalo Bull was killed about 120 Yards from the House."

Six Southw'd Indians also arrived at this House & 3 to the NWC House, they came from the Rain Hill, brought a few Furs. also got News by them of some of my Indians who have not been at the House since last July.
John Hourie arrived from the Hunting Tent about midnight brought 290 lbs of Meat."

The Men who went to the Hunters Tent for a load of Inside Fat returned. - Two Men employed making a little square place with wood to burry the Old woman in who died yesterday.
Two Indians Viz. George Sutherland and Long Legs arrived to day brought a good Trade they have not been at the House since July last they came from the South Branch nearly opposite the Birch Hill, also 3 Indians arrived from the same place to the NWC House.
Fourteen Stone Indians arrived with Provisions 4 to this House & 10 the the NWC House, they came from the Eagle Hill Creek seem to have brought a good deal of Provisions, there is 28 Tents where they came from.
Two Southw'd Indians also arrived, they came from the Rain Hill, and were 3 Night on their way brought a few Furs & a little Provisions.
Two others also arrived from Opposite the Springs near the banks of the River they came to get a little supplies. there is 9 Tents of Indians where they came from & have made a Buffalo Pound but have got nothing into it as yet; the Buffalo are numerous about them.

The NWC Men that arrived from above the 19th Instant Returned . My other Hunter also pitched to the House having left off Hunting for this Season.
After dark we had a small shower of Rain - Indians intoxicated with Liquor & one of the name Ne sue ta wish got Stabbed with a Bayonet through his arm & went into his left side the gash in his arm was about 7 Inches long and very deep that in his side about 3 Inches long, his wife also got her hand cut in covering him with the same blow. Pus coo quis was the name of the Indian that stabbed him."

These Stone Indians are great Rascals. People cannot travel in safety for them; They have played? upon us so much what with Stealing our Horses, and any thing else they can get hold off. - without any thing be done to them for it, that they are getting worse every day; & if some Steps be not taking to punish them for their audaciousnefs, some poor fellow will get killed by them.

This day sowed 4 1/4 Bushels of Barley
The Stone Indians that arrived yesterday went away, also the Southw'd Indians from Paint Creek, went in Company with them. Two other Stone Indians arrived one to each House, they traded & returned immediately. young grafs begins to appear, and early flowers the name of which I am unaquainted is in Blofsom."

This day sowed 4 Bushels of Barley."

" Wednesday Wind & Weather as before but blowing hard & cold Wea. Men employed as before; this day sowed 1 Bushel of Barley 3 1/2 pints of Wheat sowed likewise Peas, Beans, Turnip, Raddish, Carrots, Onions & Lettuce a very small quantity of each kind. Finished sowing all the Ground we had in Cultivation last year.
The Indians that arrived yesterday went away.
James Sandison & James Whitford came home to day from Sugar making but have had very little succefs having only made 48 lbs of Maple Sugar."

" Friday Wind Westerly Weather still rather cold. A very thick Smoke about us on Account of the Ground being on Fire to Windward of us About 10 Miles distant, its been burning several days past. Five Men getting themselves ready to start for Paint Creek tomorrow to afsist in bringing down the Craft. - The other Men at the House Variously employed."

Two Southw'd Indians arrived, one to this House, & one to the NWC house. Also 6 Tents of Southw'd Indians belonging Paint Creek pitched opposite the House acrofs the River."

" Saturday Wind Southerly blows fresh, the bleaknefs of the Weather & the hard frosts every night retards vegetation very much, none of the seeds that have been sown have made their appearance above ground except the Cabbage seed, which as been well covered up every night. Men employed as before till about 11 oClock, when every one at both Houses was buisely employed in extinguishing the Fire that is raging through the grafs & woods all round the Houses, and after much exertion we got it under sufficient to prevent its communicating with the works. Kept 2 Men upon Watch all night in case the fire might take in any fresh place.
Three Tents of Southw'd Pitched to the House; The Indian that arrived yesterday went away. - The Country all around is in one blaize for a Considerable distance which does great damage to the Woods. - The Tracks of Five Indians was discovered on the burnt ground about 3 Miles from the House, & we suppose it to be them that set the ground on Fire, and they not making their Appearance at the Houses we suppose they are looking for Horses to Steal which is a thing quite common to this Place & which creates us much trouble in guarding against them."

Seven Southw'd Indians arrived 2 to this House & 5 to the NWC House. the latter appear to have a good many Furs with them, they came from near the Shell River. some of the Indians that were Tenting at the House Pitched away towards the Woody hill."

" Tuesday A very Strong Gale of Wind all last night & continued most all to day from the Northward. the Fire on the ground made great ravages all night every part around us at some Distance was in a Blaize.
Men employed Packing some Bundles; and hauling fencing to hedge in the new piece of ground I have had broke out this spring & sowed 4 Bushels of Oats on it. - its about one Acre of Ground."

The Horse Keeper arrived and went away in the afternoon brought 2 Moose Skins with him.
This afternoon for the first time this Season observed the leaf of the Trees to begin to make their appearance."

Our Hunter Pitched to the House to day & two other Indians with him.
The Water in the River is remarkable shallow."

The Water in the River rose a little last night.
