" Sunday blows a gale of head Wind all day which prevented us from proceeding further then the Upper Kettle fall met an Indian from whom I Traded a little Meat."

" Monday got all over the three Kettle falls and Camped about three miles below the lower One."

" Thursday sett off early and Camped at the middle one of the three Cock e Yammies, had the Misfortune to Injure one of our Boats Materially which took us some time to Repair. 5 Canoes of the NW Company pafsed us this day for Fort du Prairie."

" Friday sett off early and Camped at Hammer Fall. Will. Yorston had the Misfortune to Slip down a Rock and dislocate his Ancle which with some difficulty we got in its proper place again."

Sept. 6
" Saturday sett off about 4 AM and Camped at the 3rd fall in the Sippin a wa River. had the misfortune to swamp one of our Boats in lowering down a Rapid by which we lost a Role of Tobacco and had a Chest of Guns much damaged."

" Sunday rain at times sett off as usual but could only reach the long Carrying place with all Over."

" Monday fine weather started early and Camped near the War falls."

" Wednesday sett out as usual and Camped at the Clayey carrying place had the Misfortune to Stave one of the Boats in lowering down a fall indeed the Utmost care and precaution is Necefsary to get the Boats safe down the falls, the water is at least 8 foot perpendicular higher than I have ever before seen it."

" Thursday sett off as usual and Camped at Donald McKay's Fall. mett Indians this day from whom I learn a large Canoe with 3 Canadians were lost at this fall a few days ago."

Sept. 12
" Friday sett off about 5 aM and Camped at the Entrance of Lake Winnipeg. pafsed the Canadian House at Point au Futre."

Sept. 13
" Saturday blows a Gale of Westerly Wind which prevented us from proceeding further then the Sandy bar on Elk Island."

" Sunday Calm weather sett off early about 10 OClock at Night reached the Entrance of Red River."

Sept. 15
" Monday started about 6 am and Camped about 20 miles up Red River mett 4 Tents of Indians who wish me much to leave a Boat with them 5 Canadians in a large Canoe Overtook us from La Futre who appears to me to be watching our motions."

" Tuesday sett off early and Camped about 15 miles below the forks of Red River pafsed 2 Tents of Indians who concurs in the wishes of those we met Yesterday and more over Informs me there is no Indians this Year at Summer berry River."

Sept. 17
" Wednesday sett off as usual and reached the forks about 3 PM where I found George Henderson, Humphrey Favel, Thomas Favel & John Kipling Junior with 14 Horses waiting our Arrival. they Confirm what the Indians of Yesterday said and give as a reason that the latenefs of the season induced them to think we were Not Coming in at all, they left all well at Brandon House."

" Thursday busy all day Making out Mr Millers Outfit Arranging the Men &c."

" Friday early this morning Mr Miller, Will. Ballentine, John Kipling (Senior), Hugh Linklater, Edw. Silk, William Waters and George Inkster sett off with a Boat well Loaded to Winter at the Dead River. dispatched G. Henderson & the 3 men with him togeather with 14 Horses loaded for Brandon House. After which I sett off with the Remaining 4 Boats & Camped about 12 miles up the River."

" Saturday to 26th Friday proceeded on our Journey as usual pafsed the Canadian House at the Portage and mett an Indian from whom I got a little Moose meat."

Sept. 27
" Saturday started as usual and camped at the foot of the Swamp."

" Sunday started early and Camped at the head of the Swamp."

" Monday sett off as usual and reached the half way Bank late at Night where I found Tho. Boar with 2 men and 13 Horses who Arrived Yesterday from Brandon House. he informed me several of the best Indian Hunters have taken their Winter debts at the NW Companys House being tired of waiting so long for our Arrival. this is entirely Owing to Mr McKays leaving his house so late (the 28th of May) last Spring, when he could at least have been a fortnight on his Journey. found 6 Tents of Indians here belonging to the Portage."

Sept. 30
" Tuesday busy making an Outfit for this place, Appointed Thomas Boar Master, Hump'y Favel, Henry Cragie, Ja. Scarth, James Cragie & Thomas Mason men, in the evening dispatched the remaining 3 Boats for Brandon House. immediately After which I sett off by land with 3 men and 13 Horses loaded with goods Camped about 8 miles above the half way bank."

" Wednesday started early and Camped at the Rice Lake."

Oct. 2
" Thursday started early and about 3 PM arrived at Brandon House. found all well with a few Indians waiting my Arrival. Mr Francis A La Rocque with 15 men is my Opposition."

Oct. 3
" Friday Indians drinking some of them taking debt took the overhaul and find near 700 MB procured during the Summer."

Oct. 4
" Saturday the rest of the Indians taking Debt and several of them went away. I am sorry to say the Tobacco is so much damaged as to be Refused by most of the Indians."

Oct. 5
" Sunday sent George Henderson Henry Cragie & 3 Horses to Thomas Boar at the halfway Bank with some Necefsaries likewise sent Ja. Anderson & an Indian Lad with 8 horses to meet and lighten the Boats."

Oct. 6
" Monday a band of Stone Indians and Crees came in they brought a good Quantity of dried Meat & Grease. in the evening James Anderson with the Ind. Lad and Horses arrived they brought sixteen Parcels of goods."

" Tuesday Alexander Corstie the Cooper making Kegs James Anderson the Taylor making Indian Coats Will. Yorston with self busy in the warehouse."

" Thursday about 11 AM the Boats arrived all hands employed in Unloading and Stowing by the Cargoes."

" Saturday early this morning George Budge, James Water, George Moad, Will. Corsey, Thomas Anderson & Jacob Corrigal with 6 Horses loaded with Goods &c sett off for the Mandals. sent the Cooper & 6 men in two Boats up the River for Logs &c others as before."

" Sunday Hugh Linklater and George Inkster Arrived from Mr Miller. he informs me they have seen a good Number of Indians and that most of them have taken Debt."

" Monday Taylor Cutting out Indian Coat Patterns for Mr Miller. Isaac Anderson Attending the Horses. John Lyons and Will. Bews came home with the Meat of three Deer from our Indian Hunter. They had no succefs themselves."

" Tuesday the Men arrived from up the River with the wood they were sent for. a band of Stone Indians came in with some dried Meat and Fat with a few Wolves."

Lewis [of Lewis & Clark fame?] with his Party pafsed the Mandal Village on their Return to the United States last Summer & that the Americans Intend to settle the Mifsifsouri River at least as high up as the Mandals."
