Sept. 8 1771
" Sunday a fine Breeze at SW charming Weather. At eleven o'Clock this Morning Captain Joseph Richards, Mr Eusebius Bacchus Kitchen went on board the East-Main Sloop for Moose River. Mr Moore soon after set sail for that Place; saluted the Captain with 11 Guns. 2 Geese 18 Ducks and 76 Plover to Day."

Sept. 9
" Monday Westerly Winds and very sultry Weather with heavy Showers of rain in the Afternoon. The two Carpenters and Wayman at work in the Flanker. The Bricklayer and two Men drawing the lime-kiln; 2 sawing Boards, the Cooper and two Men cleaning ducks and Plover, three Hands serving Powder &c for Hunting. (Trusted several Indians.) The rest variously employed ; 2 Geese 23 Ducks and 175 Plover to Day."

Sept. 10
" Tuesday Wind WNW blows fresh raw cold Weather much rain last Night. sent eight Men to the Woods for more Firewood, two hands brewing. the Armourer mending Indians Guns, the Taylor at work for the Men, one cooking, the house Carpenters, Shipwright, Cooper, and Wayman at work in the new Flanker, the rest variously employed; Myself far from well; 45 Geese 124 Ducks and 66 Plover to Day."

Sept. 11
" Wednesday a brisk Gale at SbW cold Weather a frost last Night. set 2 Nets for Fish, no Luck, the Men employed much the same as yesterday 3 Geese 10 Ducks 230 Plover to Day."

Sept. 12
" Thursday all last Night and till 3 PM a Hurricane of Wind at W and WbS with heavy Rain which sunk one of the Boats at her Mooring. The Men employed as yesterday."

Sept. 13
" Friday Wind SW cloudy cold weather. the Armourer mending hunting Guns. the Smith making latches for Doors. 6 Men at work in the ? flanker, two brewing, the Taylor at work for the Men, the rest variously employed. 53 Geese 149 Ducks 333 Plover to Day."

Sept. 14
" Saturday Wind variable Southerly froze very hard last Night and very cold to Day. our Men came home with three Rafts of Wood, the Cooper and three Men cleaning Casks and salting Provisions the rest of the Men employed as Yesterday. 12 Geese 165 Ducks and 292 Plover to Day. Lieutenant Attouch and Win-neneway-cuppo came in to take Trust."

Sept. 15
" Sunday light Airs Southerly tlll 8 AM when the Wind shifted to North, the Weather misly with small Rain in the Afternoon. The Indians of yesterday that came in to take Trust went away, and four Canoes of Uplanders came in for that Purpose; 106 Geese 123 Ducks and 294 Plover to Day. Three Indians came in with 200 Tickameg and 80 lb of Jack Fish. Saw the Sloop to the Southward."

Sept. 16
" Monday Wind variable from N to E often calm. The house Carpenter, Shipwright, Smith, Cooper and one Man at work in the Flanker. the Armourer mending Indians guns, the Taylor at work for the Men; the rest getting the Firewood to the Pile. At half past Six PM Mr Tho. Moore came to the Launch with the remainder of our Cargo. He informs me he parted with your Honors Ship on Saturday last; I pray God send them a safe Pafsage to the Port of London. 8 Geese 12 Ducks and 30 Plover to Day."

Sept. 17
" Tuesday Wind variable from SW back to S fine frosty Weather. sent Mr Powell in a Boat with five Hands to see if it be pofsible to get a Boat up the River. The Indians having informed Me that the Water is rising. At Night they returned but gave a very poor Account of the Water, however I intend to try; The rest of the Men digging a Trench for a Drain to the new Flanker. 105 Geese 32 Ducks and 36 Plover to Day."

Sept. 18
" Wednesday Southerly Winds fine Weather 15 Men preparing to go to Henley and 4 others to afsist them over the great Fall, the Armourer mending hunting Guns, the Taylor at work for the Men, the Cooper and two hands packing provisions for Henley the rest at work in the Flanker. 10 Geese & 36 Ducks."

Sept. 19
" Thursday Wind NE and E cool Weather loaded in part the boat for Henley House & sent some of the Eastmain Cargo on board. 200 Geese 57 Ducks & 162 Plover. Gave all hands Brandy."

Sept. 20
" Friday Cold cloudy Weather Wind EbS at 9 AM Mr Thomas Powell, James Thompson, Wm Backie, Jn Robertson, Jn Hurston, Andrew Tate, And. Cursitor, Hugh Linklater, Henry Linklater, George Wilson, Peter Spence, James Chambers and John Wichard set off for Henley, the three last to stay there, and John Martin, John McKimie, Jn Erving and Adam Corrigal to afsist them over the great Fall. 227 Geese including Ducks and Plover."

" Saturday Wind SE and E blows fresh the Men variously employed 99 Geese to day."

Sept. 22
" Sunday A brisk Gale at SWbW divine Service for the Day. 150 Geese to-day. Gave Mr Moore his dispatches; in the Evening the Sloop swung from the Launch."

Sept. 23
" Monday a fine breeze at WbN variable to WSW clear sharp Weather. At half past eleven AM Mr Tho. Moore, George Atkinson, Matt. Collins, Charles Macculloch, John Erving, Rob. Tennant, Tho. Pert, and Tho. Moore, sailed in the East Main Sloop for that Place. I pray God send them a good Pafsage and a happy Winter. The Reason of keeping Tho. Embleton at this Place is, his not being quite cured of the foul Distemper. Peter Dennison, Brown, and Embleton at work in the Flanker. the Armourer mending Guns, the Cooper and three Men cleaning the Sheds and stowing away Goods and Provisions. the Taylor at work for the Men, one Cooking the rest variously employed; NB. Mr Moore hath with him from Albany a bull and cow-calf, & a Cow from Moose Fort. 159 Geese to-day, including Ducks &c."

" Tuesday A brisk Gale at S and NW moderate Weather The Men employed as yesterday 65 Geese to-Day."

Sept. 25
" Wednesday A hard Gale at W and WbS the Men employed still the same. Our Men that went to afsist Mr Powell over the great Fall returned having performed what was wanted, they brought George Wilson back who was taken bad with a flux on the Road. 210 Geese to-day."

Sept. 26
" Thursday Wind EbN light Airs cloudy Weather the Shipwright and Dennison at work in the Flanker. Brown and six Men digging a Trench and laying Drains to the new Flanker. the Armourer mending Guns, the Smith about sundry Jobbs. Wilson under the Surgeons Care, one Cooking two brewing the rest variously employed 57 Geese to-day."

Brown and 4 Men hewing Slabs for the Cellar, two sawing Boards; the Cooper and two Men cleaning and Casking Geese, the Taylor at work for the Men; one Cooking, the Armourer mending Guns. the Smith doing sundry Jobs of Iron work. 248 Geese and two Seals to day."

" Tuesday Calm and cloudy Weather till 11 AM when it blew fresh at North with some snow. two Men making Pickle, the rest employed as yesterday. Our Fishermen brought home 164 Tickomeg and two Indians brought in 120 lbs of Jack Fish. 583 Geese to Day."

" Friday A fine Gale at SWbS chearful Weather the Men employed as yesterday. As I am very uneasy that our Men that went to Henley House 21 Days since are not returned, I this morning dispatched Jenkin Daniels and an Indian to go in quest of them. by whom I sent Provisions and some Brandy for them. I pray God they maybe well. 43 Geese to-Day."

" Saturday Wind SW blows fresh fine Weather trusted several Indians that are going to their winter Hunt. At Noon our Men returned from Henley House thank God all well, tho' most sady jaded having bean 18 Days getting to Henley, gave all hands Brandy. two Seals to-day."

" Friday Much rain last Night and part of this Day cold raw Weather; the Wind variable; The Men employed as yesterday. Brown very bad, as is an Indian woman on the plantation; All the hunting Indians pitched away for their winter Quarters, except the Sick, Lame, Orphans, and very old Widows."

" Friday Sharp clear fine Weather Wind N by W a little Ice along Shore; Sent 9 Men to the Woods to sprigg & Crofs-cut and gather in heaps our next Winters firewood, and two Men to bring the Boat back; the rest employed as yesterday except the Cooper who with Mr Favell is setting Traps to-rights on this Island. " Monday Wind NNW blows fresh and cold Wm Brown bad with an Asthma; Dennison and Embleton with one Man at work for the flanker; the Armourer and Taylor at work on Musquets and for the Men. Sent Wm Baine and Jenkin Daniels to fish and hunt at Chickney as also four Men with a Boat to afsist them. two trapping. one Cooking. the rest cutting firewood, at Night the Men return'd with the Boat, one Martin from Mr Favell."

" Tuesday All last Night and to-day a Storm of Wind at NNW and NE (which stripped 4 Sheets of Lead off the Mens Flanker) and a great fall of Snow. the Weather not very cold. two Men sawing Timber into boards, the Smith making Hinges, the rest employed much the same as yesterday."

" Thursday Wind NWbW the Weather moderate. The Men employed much the same as yesterday; two Martins and two Pheaseant from Mr Favell; Had a Bon-fire to-day and drank the Kings and your Honors healths; the Weather being too bad on the fifth of this Month."

" Friday All last night and this day a continual Fall of small rain, with light Airs at North, dark raw, cold Weather; Wm Brown tying up Quills being fit for nothing else. Dennison and Embleton with one Man planeing Boards for flooring, two sawing Boards, the Smith working up old Iron hoops for Spikes and Ice Chifsels. the Taylor at work for the Men. one Cooking the rest cutting Firewood."

Nov. 16
" Saturday Wind W by N dark cloudy Weather froze hard last Night. Mefs Favell and Jarvis trapping and hunting, the rest employed as yesterday. 4 Partridges to-day. several of the Wooders attempted to crofs the River but were obliged to return as were also the Fishermen."

Nov. 17
" Sunday Wind SSW fine sharp Weather, the River froze in from Side to Side. Divine Service for the Day."

Nov. 18
" Monday Variable Winds Northerly sharp fine Weather; the Shipwright, Dennison and one Man at work for the Flanker. the Smith beating up old Iron-hoops, to make Ice Chifsels, the Taylor at work for the Men. one Cooking. Mefs Favell & Jarvis hunting, one Martin from Mr Favell; the rest of the Men cutting Firewood; John Martin came to the Fort with 24 Fish; he hath had but poor Succefs in that Article, he brought 4 Martins, his Catching. Adam Corrigal came from the Wooders to get flour and make Bread."

" Friday Cloudy raw cold Weather Wind south; The Indians of yesterday went away; The fishermen brought 200 Tickomeg; The Men at home employed as yesterday."

Nov. 23
" Saturday Light Airs variable with small Snow at times. Early this Morning the Wooders came home to afsist in getting the Cattle to the Fort; for which purpose I soon afterwards sent 18 Men, but the Cattle are so wild and so little Snow on the Ground that the Men were forced to return without them; an Indian brought 10 Rabbits, 2 Pheasants and two Partridges from Mr Favell; Wm Brown still under the Surgeons Care. one Cooking. the rest cutting Firewood, the Fishermen brought 200 Tickomeg; an Indian and his Wife came to the Fort, the Man is sadly burned fainting away in a sweat-house."

Brown under the Surgeons Care; Dennison making & mending bed places in the Mens flanker. two Men at the fishing Creek and two at Chickney hunting and fishing. 200 Tickomeg from them. one Cooking. two hunting the rest cutting firewood."

Nov. 29
" Friday Wind Westerly moderate Weather the Men employed as yesterday. The Cooper and Jenkin Daniels brought in 10 Martins they say that neither Partridges, Rabbits or Pheasants are to be got."

Nov. 30
" Saturday Wind West exceeding sharp thickish Weather. 7 Men cleaning and getting timber into the Sawhouse, the Smith mending steel-traps, the Carpenter at work for the flanker, the Taylor at work for the Men, the rest cutting firewood. our Fishermen brought 50 Tickomeg. one Martin from John Martin and one from Mr Jarvis."

" Sunday Wind N sharp thick Weather; Divine Service for the Day. 7 Men returned to the Woods, as did the Fishermen to their Tents."

" Monday Wind WbN very sharp thick Weather. 4 Men setting Guns and traps for Vermin, two sawing boards, the Carpenter and Shipwright, planeing Boards, Brown bad with an Asthma, two Smiths making Ice Chifsels, the Taylor at work for the Men, the rest cooking and cutting firewood."

Dec. 3
" Tuesday Wind and Weather as yesterday or rather sharper. the Men employed as yesterday. an Indian Youth came to the Fort almost starved, he says he left several Familys of Indians three Days since in the same Condition, and that they have not caught any Furrs, having nothing to bait their traps with and very few tracts to be seen, Bad News this! Pray God send better!"

" Wednesday Very sharp thick drifting Weather two Men (Wind W) brewing, the rest employed as yesterday; One Martin from Mr Favell and two from Mr Jarvis."

" Thursday Clear sharp fine Weather, the Wind W, Dennison and Embleton fitting up the Cuddy. One planeing boards. The Smiths doing several necefsary Jobs. The Taylor at work for the Men. Four hunting, the rest cutting firewood. One Martin from Mr Favell."

Dec. 6
" Friday Wind Southerly with Snow part of the Day. The Weather not very cold; The Men employed as yesterday. Our hunters came home they brought 200 Tickomeg 2 Rabbits & two Partridges. One Martin from Wm Baine and Jenkin Daniels and one Jackash from Mr Jarvis and 3 Martins from Mr Favell."

" Saturday Wind variable with Snow part of the Day. the Wooders came home for Food, sent the Men to get in the Cattle which after Mr Favell had shot one [of the cattle] they did, except 8 which we shall send after to Morrow. drefsed the shot Beast Weight 430 lbs."

" Sunday Moderate Weather Wind SW the Men got in 6 more of the Cattle after which Prayers, the Wooders returned to their Tents."

" Thursday Wind North very cold for the time of Year; sent 3 Men to the Southward for Geese, the Indian Women being too few (as some of them are sick and lame) to bring them to the Fort. Dennison & Brown & two Men planeing Boards for the new Flanker, Embleton & one Man at work on the Craft, the Armourer cleaning trading Guns, Wayman making Hinges, the Taylors at work for the Men who are to go to Henley; McKimie under the Surgeon's Care, One making Sinnet, two making Pickle, two writing, the Cooper & one Man cleaning & casking Geese, the Cook & Cowkeeper as usual; Two Indian Men with their Familys came in to the Fort from up the River, they left their Canoes about 3 Miles off. 2 Widows and their Children came in with them; the husband of one of them was killed and eaten by his own brother, who was in a starving Condition, the other husband perished very near to Henley, as did another whose Widow is not yet come down. the Men bro't a Letter from Mr Powell which (sad to say) confirms the above relation as also that their Pease have long since been expended, their flour & Molafses nearly out, & that the rest of their Provisions will be expended by the 7th of June; We have now so little water in the river & the Ice is so thick in it, that I fear it will be very late before I shall be able to send the Boats away. 252 Geese to-Day. Gave the Men Brandy."

" Saturday A fine Breeze at SW unloaded the Sloop, put wood and Stores on board her. At Noon she fell down the River and sailed to the Ship. All hands stowing away the Cargo."

" Sunday Wind WSW Moderate Weather in the Morning. In the Afternoon Calm. Entertained John Kipling Sawyer & Carpenter and James Flatt Cooper."

Aug. 31
" Monday Light Airs SWerly. Mr Moore sent to desire the Afsistance of as many Boats and Men as pofsible to lighten the Sloop, which I did immediately. the Boats bro't a part of the Cargo which was landed and stowed away. Ten Familys of Indians came in for the Hunt, they bro't with them the Widow and two Children of one of the Men that was drowned coming from Severn House to this Place with the Pacquet."

" Tuesday Little Wind SW till 9 AM when East a moderate Gale. the Sloop came to the Launch unloaded her and sent the homeward bound Cargo on board. Sent a Boat to the Ship with a Letter to the Captain."

" Wednesday Wind N Rain last Night Moderate to Day. Discharged from your Honors Service Mr Tho. Moore, Wm Baine, James Thompson, Adam Corrigal, Wm Backie, Jn Ervine Sailors, George Wilson Do.
